I'm sure plenty of you will remember the video that's been around for years, with the M5 and RS4 racing through busy traffic on a Russian motorway. I've always thought this was the worst case of recklessness I'd ever seen (far worse than Ghost Rider or Getaway in Stockholm).

 

That was until I saw this complete and utter cock

There was a thread on Pistonheads (I think) about this and apparently the authorities were none too impressed and the driver was prosicuted, although to what extent I can't recall now.

 

That said, whilst the driving is completely unacceptable on the public road, I'd argue that I see more dangerous driving on a near enough daily basis. Yes, he's sliding around like a hooligan and weaving in and out of cars far too close and fast, but crucially, he's at least being observant and concentrating on what he's doing - something that a worrying number of motorists on the road don't, and the results are all too predicable.

 

That said, when that guy has an accident it's going to be huge and probably will take out an innocent bystander (or half a dozen)

 

Edited to add - some of the driving in heavily built up areas is absolutely moronic, and yes, extremely bloody dangerous.

Looks like its a Georgian car, which going by my experience of Georgian drivers is pretty accurate, they are mental! I remember getting a mini bus from Tbilisi to Yerevan and thought i was going to die on several occasions. But yeah this is some next level stupidity.

Got to hand it to him, he does have very good car control and like Anthony says, very observant. Still a twat though.

He is clearly a very good driver. That M5 looks pretty loose a lot of the time, and the way he catches it and changes direction to avoid oncoming traffic, mid drift is impressive. I can't dispute that.

 

But he's on the edge. I mean that is the point of drifting after all, to be going beyond the limit of adhesion. That's all fine and well in a controlled environment, but in traffic, with pedestrians about it's utter recklessness and shows no respect for anyone else at all. You watch any of those crash compilations from Eastern Europe and one thing is very clear, you can't anticipate the utter stupidity of other drivers and how the unexpected can happen in the blink of an eye. So no matter how observant he is, and no matter how good his car control is, if you put his behaviour in the same place as the stupidity of other road users, eventually the inevitable is going to happen. He's not going to be able to stop or avoid something that suddenly pops out right in front of him if he's mid-drift.

Technical ability and observation stand for very little in that environment, like you say. I suspect he's a very arrogant person, confident but completely naive to the reality of what happens when other people are put into the mix or - more likely, I suspect - he just doesn't give a s*it. Many people could drive in a similar fashion, truth be told, but our knowledge, our conscience and the realisation of what the consequences of our actions could be, stop us from doing the same. In my mind he's one wet patch/pull out/mechanical failure/error-of-judgement away from being a murderer, and no matter how skilled you think you are it can always happen.

Looks like the driver only got away with it on afew occasions because other drivers aborted their moves - lucky so many times

He's watched too many Transporter type films and is over confident in other road users and pedestrians not getting in his way at the last moment... He'll come a cropper sooner or later driving like that in uncontrolled environments on the public highways...
