Use 8V Ignition Coil In Mi16?

Recommended Posts

Excuse my ignorance, but it seems like the external dimensions of the 8v coil match up exactly with that of the Mi16. Plugs and all. Is there any reason the two coils wouldn't be interchangeable? Just amplifying a signal, no? Or should I expect my block to explode?

any reason to not go with the cheapest one on this page? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1227080,parttype,7060 (I drive a US market 405, but the flags have been wrong before)

The 8v coil will work fine and I've used them before myself for testing purposes on 1.9 Mi16 engines when I've suspected an ignition coil issue, assuming that the US spec cars are the same as UK/European spec cars with regards ignition (which I'm sure they will be).

The only thing that differs is the mounting bracket on some variants (e.g. the one used on a 205 GTi has no bracket) so double check that.

I've no experience with Cambiare brand products so can't comment on that.

That's what I wanted to hear!

I appreciate the reminder. I had forgotten to pay attention to the mounting bracket for the plug connectors after having ordered the bosch 00062 unit and being punished with 2 ways of shipping and nothing to show for it.

At the very worst, perhaps I can fab a bracket for whatever savings are left?

Of the brands available, who has given you the best experience?
