She's Now A Tapper....b*lls, Next Steps?

Recommended Posts

finially got the engine fired up today only to find out it is now tapping badly from the head, it has always had a small tap but now its proper loud.

what is it that actually causes the tap? i'd like to know as now the plan is the use the xu7 head instead (albeit a little worked on the ports) along with the gti6 cams if that is possible?

so instead of a new thread i'll add this on to this one.

whats do i need to make the xu7 head as good as the gti6 one?

what do i need to swap from the gti6 head on to the xu7 one?

cheers

heres a little vid of the tap for anyone who likes that sort of thing.

How long has it run for, have you driven it yet? Don't despair just yet! Could just be tappets need to pump up with oil.

What tom said, they need revs or even some driving sometimes to get the pressure up.

Xu7 doesnt have the hole for the cam sensor. But afaik, the preffered head of choice for work is the xu7.

ive driven it up and down the carpark but not even got out of 1st so fingers crossed, and it was completely stripped and put through the dishwasher so i hope you are right. it did run up to temp though which is where i also found out my water temp guage isnt working  either. and i think i have wired the wideband in wrong (used the black not the yellow ecu wire) hence the afr looking like this:

in spite of this it does however feel a much revvier engine than the gti6 block, looking forward to getting it back on the road now.

im not using the cam sensor anyway so no biggy there and yeah i did hear they are good heads for porting etc.

i think going forward i will be using the xu7 head (though maybe not yet if the tap goes away) anyway as its from a known good strong engine. might need to do a bit more research into it.

does sandy carry out head work on these heads?

Cam sensor can be fitted to the XU7 easily enough if the need arises, the casting is there just needs to be drilled.
