Tcp Smell, Is It Anti-Freeze?

Recommended Posts

DanRM

Might seem a stupid question but I've noticed a weird TCP tyoe smell in my 205 the last couple of days, Any idea what this might be?

Haven't used any cleaning detergents in there for a couple of months and I definitely haven't spilt TCP haha. Just wondering if anyone might know, I did post up the other day about all my speakers not working and I was told that sometime the heater matrix can leak on the wires behind the player. Would this be antifreeze im smelling?

Cheers

Usually people on this are right and you should take heed to what they say.

Some might not like you posting the same sort of question either.

Investigate for yourself it should become clear if its the heater matrix.

With care:

Wipe your finger around the the clutch pedal carpet area.

If it tastes sweet it is anti-freeze, it's also slightly toxic so be careful.

Alternatively remove your radio and look for water damage.

I didn't mean to post the same sort of question, the heater matrix was one of the points mentioned about the speakers, I did take his advice and have a look to see if they were wet and they weren't, I sorted them by giving the plugs a wriggle. And I did have a quick look at the matrix too but didn't notice anything wrong.

I wasn't sure if this smell would have been anything to do with the matrix and I just missed something or completely off topic. Which is why I put it under general

As for losing water no, I was told by a mechanic that he thinks the head might have a problem but haven't lost any water in the last 4 weeks or so

Wasn't a dig at all just sounded like you were asking the same question.

Usually water leaks or potential water leaks are are a case of tracing back in the engine bay.

Do a search on how to remove the heater matrix because if in doubt replace it as its easy enough to do.
