Cherry Red

Hi, Can anyone tell me if the Cherry Red on a E reg cti should be the same shade on a G reg cti. Managed to find myself some new doors but I know there are a couple of shades. Thanks

iirc only the late cti's used the darker red, 1992 on wards, but don't take that as gospel. So in theory it should be the same, however cherry red is a very difficult colour to match as they are often various shades of orange, especially the older cars which have had prolonged sun exposure, so its a gamble either way.

The paint code for cherry red is P3KB , if that helps :) most of them had this one , but as said there was darker shade of red as well but myself i haven't seen any GTi in this other "the dark red" .

There is only one code for cherry red, however it is one of the worst colours for fading and poor colour matching, chances are it will look like a patchwork quilt!

However, not all is completely lost as I believe they were not clear coated so you can give the whole car a good buff then wax it, it might come back up reasonably well.

you can check if this will work by applying some polish, if the cloth turns red, no clearcoat, if it just goes mucky, you'll need a respray!

I suppose the doors will be fine , cos the major areas of fading are the roof , bonnet and upper area of the rear quarter panels :)

At least mine got bald from top and it's fine from the bottom

Also later cars were laquered (although some will disagree, my orignal one is). Although I believe this came in mid 89' as my Hreg (with 1990 stamps on plastics and engine) is laquered and my Freg is not laquered.

I've had original cherries from 1987 and 89 that were both laquered from new.

If you put your bin not service box it'll tell you under characteristics tab if its lacquered or not.

my 92 built phase 2 1.6 gti is in its original paint with p3kb code and is clear coated and suffering the usual laquer peel! :)

my opinion is to get a uniform colour match ultimately is to have a full respray.

almost every cherry red peugoet i have ever seen suffers from sun bleaching or oxidization so slightly differing coloured panels is the norm! :)

My Ph1 Cherry 1.6 '87 was just lacquered in color , without clear coat :) .
