The Gti6 is the easier option.... The 180 is probly the more interesting!

Depends how much time/money you have... but a 180 conversion is quite rare id give it ago if i where you.

GTI-6 is far easier, you need custom engine mounts to fit the 206 GTI 180 engine & either aftermarket engine managment or someone skilled with wiring to figure out whats needed to fit the original 206 ecu into a 205.

only as prone as anything else neglected and run with a knackered radiator/heater matrix/thermostat/cooling fans.

I love the fact you like your own posts (Post #5)

What you want to fit is a Jag V12 from a 1978 XJS. Apart from a jubilee clip that needs changing for a blue one, it is a straight swap. Even the wiring loom plugs straight in :)

Pah, that was so 2004...

I fitted a w16 engine out of an Audi A8 during my lunch break at work, again no fitting issues whatsoever

It's only a bit of fun :)

However as you are both fairly new users, it wont have been that long since you read the forum rules :) Thats all people are getting at.

General posting guidelines:

- the main rule of thumb is to get familiar and use the search function. most of
the technical questions you may want to ask have most probably been asked
and answered several times by now.

All you need to do is click on the search link (top right corner of the page)
and be careful what you enter as search criteria.

There's also a quick sub-forum search function (bottom left corner of the page).

We are also constantly cleaning up the forum and archiving the most useful and
best technical topics. these topics can be found in Technical Archives forum

If you are still having trouble finding what you are after try using google search http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?q=site:205gtidrivers.com&hl=en&lr=

I use it and find it much easier than the forum search :)

And V6's are a pain in the arse to fit compared to a gti6!

GTi-6 is easier of the 2, old hat now and plenty of threads covering it and lots of conversion parts available. 180 is more involved as you have to modify a lot more iirc and you have the added complication of multiplex wiring to deal with. V6 also requires some fab work / changes to subframe, but conversion is easier and again, plenty around to research.

What do you intend to use the car for?

Track days, ease of instalation and replacement, go GTi6. With an Mi box, thats my fave.

V6 is quite heavy, and a nose heavy 205 isnt what you need for handling.

Everything is available for a gti6 conversion.

Easy!

Rollocks, again.

The main bulk of the weight is the transmission and ancillaries, and they handle just fine with it in, of course the additional weight needs to be addressed, but its not like plonking two gti6's boat anchors in there.

I suggest you drive one, I have driven a couple.

As above, the engine's quite light it's the box that weigh's allot, and the bank of cylinders is not that far forward compared to allot of other things

I suggest you drive one, I have driven a couple.

Peugeot's own stated figures speak volumes - XU10J4RS is listed as 143kg, the ES9J4 on the other hand is 215kg(!)

(interestingly, the gearbox isn't a huge amount different - circa 36kg for a BE and 49kg for a ML)

Not only that, but a fair portion of the extra weight is going to be higher up and further forwards, exactly where you don't want it, so to suggest that isn't going to impact handling is clearly nonsense. After all, any extra weight over the nose is detrimental. Drive a 205 XS with its featherlite alloy TU and MA combo and it's joyous how light and agile it feels, and even an alloy block XU feels a bit ponderous by comparison.

And yes, I have driven a 205 V6. Lovely engine, hopeless turn in and felt very nose heavy. I'm sure that some suspension changes would dramatically improve things, but you can't beat physics and you're always going to be better without the weight. Whether it's an acceptable trade off is of course a personal thing - to me, it isn't, but to others, it is.

Clearly it's another matter entirely comparing it to a twin engined 205, as that's going to handle very differently anyway and is a much much harder proposition to do right.

I seem to have upset you Welshpug?

I have not driven a V6, i never said i had. Only that the engine is heavier than a Gti6, (i thought it was 50KG, but seems its more) and therefore, if your looking for handling, its a downside.

Sorry if im talking "Rollocks".
