'Where shall we put this electric pump for the power steering? Ah yes, in between the coolant bottle and the washer bottle, that's not in any danger of becoming wet... But what if it does get wet? Well, we'll get a recall issued and cover the connector in grease and put a plastic bag over it. By the time that fails, car will be out of warranty anyway...'

The lack of water resistence of the plugs are the cause of most electrical faults I've seen.

You can't easily change them to IP rated ones as they usually plug into something that can't be changed (like indicators or the SAD for example)

I thought the power steering pump was driven from the alternator belt?
