Recommended Posts

Hi guys

In my country , restrictions for upgrading engines with Turbo kits , NOS , Swapping engines etc - Are awful !

What are the upgrades man could make for 1.9 ? Anyone managed to get say 150 , 160 HP?

You'll need set of high compression pistons, a cam, remap and custom exhaust manifold. That should get you close to 150 hp.

What would you choose , upgrading , or simply moving to Mi16?

The Mi16/GTI6 route is probly the cheapest option

To get that sort of power out of the 8v, it will cost acouple thousand, maybe more?

By TB's i mean thottle bodies.

Why suggest an engine swap when they have already stated that doing this in his country (Isreal) is a nightmare?

You should be able to get 150bhp for less than that price by careful assembly & use of the right bits but to guarantee that much & keep your standard motronic ecu might prove difficult.

I hope to have that from my engine but won't know until the car is finished & I take it for a power run when the engine has done some more miles but I'm on a different Motronic ecu to you.

Throttle bodies seem to be very expensive and affect mainly on hight rpm .

Which upgrades you have on your car Graham?

1.9 engine with 1.6 pistons, piper 272' cam & a lightly skimmed head with a four branch exhaust manifold & swapped ecu for the MP3.1.

Why 1.6 pistons?

Higher compression. Throttlebodies will see most gains in the midrange but a gti-6 or mi16 conversion would be superior

Miles

Easy, you need TB's, ECU, Loom, Slightly worked head with larger valves, 285 spec cam, std bottom end will net you around 170bhp, Mind this will cost £3000.00 ish

I made an cheap 1.9 8v engine with some 150 ish Bhp ?!? dunno how much it has but it's really quick and it feels while driving like something that's a combo of a 16v and turbocharged engine  .. it revs up till the 7000rpm , and yet still pulls from the bottom like mad man ..

1. Gas flowed 1.9 8v D6B head (fully ovehauled)

2. Overhauled and lightened 1.9 8v DFZ bottom end (it has pistons with 9cc dish and compression height as much that it's almost flush with the liner when on TDC ! that boosts compression ratio and improves squish/quench ..)

3. Modified OE TB

4. Modified OE inlet manifold

5. 1.6 Flywheel

6. Uprated fuel pressure regulator

7. Recurved dizzy to match the engine specs

8. Custom made exhaust

9. Fuel mixture adjusted with an WB lambda sensor

10. 405 SRi box

It's still on Jetronic management ..
