The Speedometer Shows 105 When It's Actually Less Than 90

Recommended Posts

The gearbox is 1.6 BE3 - and i run on 1.9 DKZ

Since I got it , noticed that the speedometer is actually 12-15 km"h more than actual speed.

Measured by a friends car (Audi q5) driving next to each other

Why is that , and How can it be fixed?

Thanks :)

Check which drive cog you have on the end of the speedometer .. for 1.9 should be a red one .

This (it's from some other car but basically same thing as on 205) :

It's down on the gearbox where the RH driveshaft enters the differential , beige plastic housing . Just undo the nut which holds upper part of the speedo housing , and pull up along with the speedo cable still connected .. and you'll see the gear cog on the end .

With a 1.6 gearbox it shouldn't be that far out, all my 1.6 boxes have a red cog as well.

There have been some topics about the correct speedo drive cogs posted before, a couple which might help;
