Mi16 Race Engine Fuel Consumption?

Recommended Posts

parry

Hey Guys,

I am upgrading from a 8v to a 16v ~200hp engine on my 205 race car and need to determine a rough estimate of fuel use for an endurance race coming up in March.

The 8v would consume 0.4liters per lap, 2.1km circuit. The race is 300km long or 137 laps. We dont expect to do the full 137 as we assume we will be lapped a few times. I estimate around 130 laps if all goes good. We only have the standard tank and i am now concerned we will not be able to do the race with one pitstop as previously.

Any data from experianced mi16 racers would be apreciated.

Thanks

Parry

I did some fuel consumption figures for the Phillip Island track (4.45kms) a few years ago for my 405 Mi16. It was around 1.5 litres/lap. Roughly a similar spec engine to your new 16v. Your car being 300 kgs lighter would improve on that.

Thanks mate, so half the distance track, slower track so conservative 0.7liters per lap, 130 laps = 91 liters of fuel needed for the full race, 96 liters if we do 137. Ok we can make it on these calculations, but we are forced to pit at the halfway mark rather than a safety car intervention! Going to be an intresting race this year.

Did Peter or Adrian take note of how much fuel they used at Eastern Creek recently? I think Peter said he & John did about 90 laps in total over the weekend. That would probably give you a better idea in a similar weighted car to yours.

It depends how much hp you make of course. So yours might be only 0.7L/lap...........
