Oh dear... See, this is where they went wrong with the 207. they advertised it like it's the "new, modern 205 GTi." It just wasn't, and nor should it have been, but if they're going to tell everyone it is, people will get in and expect it to be, then inevitably they'll slate - what might actually have been a really good car - because it's not the car they were promised.

"new, modern 205 GTi." It just wasn't, and nor should it have been

but it was, because they can't and never will build another car like a 205, that's what you'll get from peugeot!

yes I agree the marketing bods should be lined up and shot, or at least brainwashed to see that the engineers working at Peugeot are not and cannot ever build a 205 gti ever again! the designers and stylists are doing a pretty good job now, they fixed citroen and moved onto peugeot!

Sounds like it is really struggling..wheezing engine struggling to breath...the raw 205 sounds awsome on the other hand.

this terrible marketing is making a lot of 205 owners talk about it though, isn't it ;)

I would rather have a Renault sport or Vauxhall,IMO there the main manufacturers that still do fun hot hatches (by todays standards)

Corsa VXR is a kind of fun little car, astra VXR is pretty good,i dont like much else modern really,DS3 is a cool looking car so i would add that one in but i would have a renault myself. But Vauxhall are still doing the "Hot hatch" and i have driven a few of them and i thought they felt pretty good to drive

Every time a 20x is introduced, there's the inevitable comparison to the 205-mainly by journalists over here. This time it's Peugeot themselves & as such have put their goolies on the line if it doesn't live up to expectations.

The 206 was underpowered, the 207 just plain awful. They have set the bar high this time & will get hammered if it's flawed.

The 206 was underpowered

180 was 160/ton.

205 is 146/ton at best.

306 rallye 143 bhp/ton.

Yes, but it initially came out with the 100Kw engine which is what I was referring too. :( Only after howls of complaint did they fit the 130Kw into it. But it was still no 205.

A great advert for how fun the 205 looks to drive in comparison to the 208!! Even get to handbrake turn a 205, but all you get in reply is some big heavy wheels turning...

"Give yourself a shiiiiiinnneeyyy" springs to mind again!!

and besides, why would anyone want it to be another 205?

isn't that why we own 205's anyway??

I feel sorry for them, they are trying so hard to get back to the market with something fresh and inspiring but they are failing each time. On this ad there is more 205 then 208 in it. Each time they want to compare the good handling they bringing back 205 for a back up...

If you want to bring back GTI, start producing 205 again :) !!!

The advert only says the GTI is back lol

I might rock up to the local Peugeot garage in my 205 and see if I can get a test drive - back to back as such. It looks reasonable though but of course it will never be a 205. No modern car ever will be.

they should just bring it back, make it a bit stronger (with carbon) to pass modern crash tests stick a 1.6 turbo, bluetooth stereo in there and be done with it.

It would knock spots off most "hatches"

Got to be said, the styling of new Peugeots is horrendous!

Watching this has made me want another 205! It's only been 4 months!

They could improve the chassis to have extra strength. The design would have to change to meet pedestrian crash tests and such (auto bonnet?)

It would need a better engine, better crash energy deflection. (i've been in a 205 in a crash and the floor under the drivers seat squished in nicely)

Then you have the problem of marketing it. The hot hatch market has grown up, being more for people in their early 30's who still need some practicality, get a couple of kids in etc. Will they want such a small car, will the younger demographic be able to afford a new car or new insurance.

Am I being too sensible? I dont want a new 205. I'm happy with what I have!
