Ahh right, I dont see why it wouldnt work. Finish wouldnt be as good as OEM but i suppose you could sand it up nicely. Could be next on the list to try :D

the knobs aren't solid parts so it should take less time than you imagine if you can get it drawn up.

Well anything you need I have is available anyway.

One part at a time see how it goes.

My worry is more the drawing it than the making it lol. I think i know how id do it but it may take some time, i can CMM it at work but it would be a long job. Basically id have to measure the shape from the bottom to the top in say 1mm increments then draw those shapes stacked on top of each other then i can pull the bottom shape through the others to give the overall form. Does that make sense? if anyone could offer a better/easier way to do it thatd be awesome

Are you using a 3D scanner to reverse engineer these parts, or just a good ruler/verniers and a bit by-eye?

I use what i need to do it really, if its as simple as measuring across the width ill use a micrometer, i was always taught calipers were "guessing sticks" and to always use my mics, theyve come on quite a bit now so theyre not as bad as old clock dial ones or just with slide markings. If in the case of this block i needed to measure the profile form of the triple angled grooves and lead in tapers i used a casting compound to take the form and measured that at x25 on a shadowgraph. To double check it ill be getting a trace done of the same profile on a mitutoyo tracing machine, if i really wanted to go overboard i have access to state of the art cmm equipment too but as i say, ill use the simplest thing i can to check it with, but it will be measured properly. For the likes of a gearknob it will be a combination of measurement and eye work, id print one and compare the original and adjust if necessary

im looking at getting a 3d scanner though so we'll see where that leads

Theres a way of using an xbox kinect sensor as a scanner, thats what im gonna try as a proper scanner is alot more than my printer lol

And a finished article, i may change the 2 little location pins as i had to hand file them to fit properly but other than that it looks ok to me :D i need to sort this camera too its annoying the piss out of me now

My QA mate is in work today so ill get him to do that trace of the profile, aswell as anything else that needs measuring. I wasnt very well yesterday so got a bit behind on the other piece but ill make a start on it today

Looks good.

They were about £3.50 when sold from Pug, gives you an idea what to charge and to cover your time/costs.

Ah thats pretty cheap, is that per piece or for the pair?, its a hard one to work out for price really. Same for the badges. Cost wise the material and power cost are small. Maybe a pound if that per piece, but time wise its around 2-4 hours i think. I dont wana rip peoples eyes out either, ill have a think and ill see what i can do time wise and try and come up with a nice reasonable price :)

Ive also had the original traced which is a little bit out to the cast which is expected but is a much better representation on the actual form which il scan and post when i get home, i also did the printed piece which i was very impressed with with its repeatability and accuracy. Granted it was slightly out to the actual sizes but thats down to the model and not the machine, a tweak to the model and were all good and can do a prototype for testing purposes.
