DC2T 51 Posted March 25, 2014 Yeh should be able to print them, id need a set to copy off though but i cant imagine itd be a problem. Is it load bearing at all or just a guide for the rod ? I can print with 100% infill so it would be a solid plastic part
farmer 328 1 Cars Posted March 25, 2014 Would need to be solid plastic.
farmer 328 1 Cars Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Could it make 4635 50 the brake master cylinder fluid bottle? Been asked for that a lot recently. I have the white block to copy. Edited March 25, 2014 by farmer
DC2T 51 Posted March 25, 2014 That one im not sure about, technically yes it could be printed but would need supports making for the inside so the top wouldnt collapse in while printing. Or go sooooooo slow its hardened before it gets to sag in. Plus im not sure how brake fluid would react to the plastic it prints with. Id have to test it to be 100% certain
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted March 25, 2014 Or the collosal amount of strength it takes to forcing the bloody thing into the master cylinder lol
farmer 328 1 Cars Posted March 26, 2014 Slo, your not joking there. Even with a new one you think the whole thing is going to crumble. So shall I send you a new white block and used M/C bottle to try and replicate?
notamondayfan 44 Posted March 26, 2014 Could it make 4635 50 the brake master cylinder fluid bottle? Been asked for that a lot recently. I have the white block to copy. The method I used for my prints is unlike James' as it doesn't require any support work, as it's supported by the unused powder. Once the print is finished it, you then discard / reuse the unused powder. But I agree with James though, I wouldn't trust the plastics / nylon with brake fluid. Perhaps if you were to coat / dip the printed bottle in something that is proven to not react to brake fluid, then it should work fine. Dean
GLPoomobile 958 Posted March 26, 2014 Something like the MC reservoir needs very serious R&D, and personally I wouldn't want to produce them for others unless extensive testing had been conducted. This is a safety critical part after all!
notamondayfan 44 Posted March 26, 2014 Something like the MC reservoir needs very serious R&D, and personally I wouldn't want to produce them for others unless extensive testing had been conducted. This is a safety critical part after all! Yea I totally agree, and something I'd avoid personally. Even if the printed material didn't react to the brake fluid, it could fail in other ways, such as vibrations cracking the bottle.
jackherer 543 Posted March 26, 2014 It would be very unwise to manufacture brake components without public liability insurance or whatever is required. Even if you were prepared to take the risk I don't think we'd allow them to be sold on here.
Maso 5 2 Cars Posted March 26, 2014 You can see here how to copy a badge using the forms I would love one or two GUTMANN emblems...
DC2T 51 Posted March 26, 2014 I fully agree with every comment about the MC bottle, and would hate for something to fail because of it. but yeh id certainly try the block itself Gutmann emblems can be done easy enough, all i need is one to copy from. Or someone to take some measurements of an existing one and ill make a model myself
johniban 59 1 Cars Posted March 26, 2014 if you printed some car related items in 1/18 scale you would get alot of buisiness! if you could make a sissor lift or two or four poster ramp id be interested in 1/18th scale
DC2T 51 Posted March 27, 2014 Im sure they could be done mate, as i say if they can be modelled they can be printed. Unfortunately im not skillful enough to model cars etc but i could probably do ramps. Did a few more badges on solidworks aswell as a gti6 inlet badge, same would apply any design could be out on. iv been looking into finishing the badges too, from rumbling to bead blasting and fully painting too. Hopefully ill get a finished article soon
GLPoomobile 958 Posted March 27, 2014 I love that the possibilties are almost endless and the parts are relatively cheap to make. Collectively there's been so many good ideas on here over the years and so much enthusiasm to reproduce parts but the low volume has made product start up prohibitive. Looks like that's no longer going to be the case. We need to brainstorm and throw together a list of everything that would be worth making. As said before, you could make a nice living on the side from something like this!
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 27, 2014 can I have a Citroen XU10J4RS chevron badge?
Weser 30 Posted March 27, 2014 Just wondered if we did our own designs can we send stuff over to yourself for printing? Obviously for some sort of price. I design on solidworks for a living so it would be handy to know someone to get personal projects printed if need be?
GLPoomobile 958 Posted March 27, 2014 I'm bored at work so I just had a bit of a brain dump of things that you could potentially 3D print for a 205 GTI. Some has been covered already (badges). Some parts are clearly still available but might be cheaper to 3D print anyway, or just easier to obtain than waiting to get hold of a new/used OE part. Just thought this might get other's thinking and making further suggestions..... 1. Various interior/exterior clips 2. Exterior: Alloy wheel centre caps (perhaps with Lion logo impressed instead of embossed for something different. Could also do different logos e.g. Speedline or PTS logos) Tailgate badges Rear 3/4 badges Grill badge Mudgaurd badges Driving light frames Rear window and sunroof screw caps Windscreen wiper bolt covers (they sometimes snap off if you fold them too far back) 3. Interior (getting the textured finish might be a challenge for some parts): Front and rear speaker grills Coin tray lid Triangle blanking plate above coin tray Choke blanking plate Wing mirror inside covers (the triangles) 3 and 5 button trims for the centre console Vents for front and rear of lower centre console Window winder blanking caps for elctric window door cards Door lock pulls Bolt caps for the seatbolt mounting points How about a small pair of caps that would fit in the screw holes at the back of the console behind the gearstick? I always thought this bit looked unfinished how Peugeot had left it. Seat subframe blocks (the small round blocks that raise the subframe up off the carpet) The covers that slip on the metal release arms for the back seats (in front of the parcel shelf at both sides) 4. Enginebay: 8v ignition lead holder 1.9 Mi16 spark plug/ign lead cover 8v/16v cambelt covers?
DC2T 51 Posted March 27, 2014 can I have a Citroen XU10J4RS chevron badge? Shouldnt be a problem, do you have a picture? or is it just that badge with the citroen arrows instead? GL ill have a look through the list and see what i can do, again shouldnt be too much of a problem but we'll see. one thing that stuck out that i wount be able to do is the Mi lead cover as i think itll be too long. My build envelope is something like 230mm (X) x 230mm (Y) x 200mm (Z) and yeh Weser that would be fine mate
