jackherer 543 Posted March 23, 2014 Probably about 150-200 watts, it's just a small heater and some stepper motors. That's a valid point though, energy costs need to be added to raw material prices but I still don't think they'll rival ebay prices
DC2T 51 Posted March 23, 2014 yeh when i come to sell one, itll be material price + overheads etc
DC2T 51 Posted March 23, 2014 just found this on the ultimaker website "The Ultimaker2 uses about 200W of power with the heated-bed enabled. Electricity costs somewhere between 10 and 20 cents per KiloWattHour (depending on where you live). So running the UM2 costs between 2 and 4 cents per hour, or between 48 and 96 cents per day. It's a fraction of the cost compared to filament cost."
DC2T 51 Posted March 23, 2014 printing one of these at the moment, its a delete for the front badge to make the front grill just the full 3 slats. I designed one to incorporate the honda badge as im sticking a honda lump in mine but im not too keen on it really so thought id take the lion out too. I also changed the badges slightly and rather than raise the lettering ive recessed it. That way i can throw paint everywhere and sand it back so its clean, i like the look better but its then away from the oem look. I might offer both badges and let people decide for themselves. ill put some time into getting the black to work tomorrow too
cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted March 24, 2014 May I ask why? You'll never finish your can anyway, as you spend 16 hours a day 3D printing .
DC2T 51 Posted March 24, 2014 Just for something to do really lol and yeh youre probably right, i should get my finger out
DC2T 51 Posted March 24, 2014 Success!! looks like there may have been a blockage of some sorts, i rana few more things in blue then removed it, once black was re installed then it came through fine. So pleased lol, printing a badge now
GLPoomobile 958 Posted March 24, 2014 That looks like it'll need a lot of refinishing to blend in, as the shape isn't right. Bit of a personal thing for me, but I've always hated the debadged grills when you can still see the square badge support left behind. I'd much rather see just the 3 bars with no extra clutter. But I suppose you could at least paint that back section black to disguise it.
DC2T 51 Posted March 24, 2014 definately an improvement over the blue!

DC2T 51 Posted March 24, 2014 heres a comparison, im not too happy with the paint tbh id like something a bit thicker and closer to the oem stuff. looks almost like red oxide primer. and
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted March 25, 2014 Get some stuff up on ebay! You'll make a mint!
DC2T 51 Posted March 25, 2014 All in due time wana perfect these before i send them out. im not happy with the paint, the OEM paint is thick like a red oxide primer. I may have to prime them first then paint which ill try some time this week. Im also looking at getting a glass bead blaster to finish the prints and remove machine marks from the face. Theyre only really noticable if you look but i know theyre there so im not happy lol. onwards and upwards
farmer 328 1 Cars Posted March 25, 2014 Could you print 2430 18 you think?? Maybe to sophisticated
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted March 25, 2014 Didn't the quarter badges have a red silk screen rather than a layer of paint? A bit like those tippex strips that secretary's used to use.
jackherer 543 Posted March 25, 2014 Could you print 2430 18 you think?? That's a very good idea, I can see that working quite well, the complex shape wont be an issue I don't think, that's the sort of thing 3D printers are suited to, I'm not sure they would be strong enough though.
