Wiring A Towbar Socket Into A 205, Which Wires?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

Im just about to fit a towbar and wiring socket onto my 205 to tow a small trailer. I just need a little bit of help with the wiring.

the socket has the following wires:

1 yellow L/H indicator

2 blue rear fog

3 white earth return

4 green R/H indicator

5 brown R/H tail light/number plate light

6 red stop lights

7 black L/H tail light/number plate light

my rear cluster are phase 1.5.

I'm assuming a can splice into the cluster wiring without any adverse affects?

I know which one the brake lights is, because I've got a high level one fitted, so i just need to figure out which ones the others are.

I assume I can earth it on some bare metal in the boot??

I'd like to do it neatly if at all possibly, but I assume I'll ned to run a wire from one cluster to the other to get both idicators?

can I join both tail lights together and connect to just one cluster, or should I connect one to the left and one to the right as the socket is wired?

any help appreciated, and if anybody has one already installed and has a photo, I'd be thankful!!

(I realise there probably not many gti's with a towbar on, but I'm sure a couple of dervs and base models might do!)

thanks in advance

John

Simes

Spliced mine into the rear cluster as you're planning.

Very easy.

Took about 30mins.
