Hey people. Need to get a New battery and wondered what other people use. There's two different ampage on the batteries I'm looking at. I'm running a s16 1994 engine in my 205. What rampage is best for it? Also whado people think about moving the battery to the boot? Gives me more room up front then...

Interestingly, I seem to have more luck with no name batteries than I do many of the branded ones.

Bosch Silver batteries in particular I would avoid like the plague if it's on a car that isn't used daily and thus the battery could have chance to discharge. I had three fail in less than a year on me, which was subsequently replaced by a used no names and it was fine for years. These days, I just have a handful of batteries that I've kept from cars that I've broken.

Personally, I'd just get something local with a long no-quibble warranty on it. Halfords if you've got a trade card are pretty reasonable, most of their range have 3 or 4 year warranties on them, and they seem to do exactly what they say on the tin.

I've had an Odessey dry battery for about 5 years now, it's laid down on its side in the original under bonnet location. It was cheapish, light and will start the car easily after its been left in the garage all winter and only does 2000 miles a year.

There are only 3 or 4 companies manufacturing batteries. Then they're re-branded and sold under hundreds of different names. There isn't really a lot of difference between any of them. Buy one with a good warranty and change it if you get a duff one.

I have always had luck with crappy Starting Bull ones. I'm sure I paid 26 quid for the last one.

Quick heads up - 16v engines need batteries with a higher CCA than 8v engines. It should still be enough to start it, but it's a bit sluggish and can take a while sometimes. Which reminds me, I need a new battery for my 306.
