Fitting A Fuel Cut Off Switch

Recommended Posts

madmover

For some reason It won't let me post in the Technical Archive so here seems the next most relevant place.

Want to fit a fuel cut off switch using a switch the same as the one here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BATTERY-ISOLATOR-CUT-OFF-POWER-SWITCH-/290826281098?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b698e08a

I've removed the cover etc and my question is: Wheres best to run this switch from. Relay at the front under the dash or stick an in line fuse on the green and yellow wire pictured and install it at the back? Not bothered about it being hidden or anything nor does it have to be FIA compliant. Just safe and inside the car (Don't want an external one outside the body work like Caterham or anything.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been posted before but I've had a search and can't find much specific to 205's.

I will be running a switch inline with the white fuel pump wire in the multiplugs under the dash.

Mine will be to stop thieves more than a safety thing.

I meant white... not going to bed and working through the night is taking its toll! :/

Where about's does the wire run exactly?

A simple switch that will handle circa 15 amp on white wire #74 will do the job.

However, the question is why? The tachymetric relay will switch the pump on/off as needed, so if the pump is staying on when the engine isn't running, that's the issue and you'd be best fixing the root cause rather than the symptom.

If you're going to fit a proper cut off switch, you'd be far better cutting all electrical power with it from both a security and safety point of view.
