Oil Filters

What's the general opinion on oil filters on Pug engines these days?

Is the view still that genuine Peugeot oil filters are superior or is a half-decent brand from the likes of Halfords/GSF/ECP just as good, so long as it has the non-return valve inside?

Just asking as Peugeot are asking £8 for a filter!

Personally, I'm happy running a half-decent pattern filter together with regular 10W40 semi-synthetic oil on anything run of the mill, and given that all my cars end up going to high mileage without issue (306 is now on 222k for example), I'm happy enough that my approach works.

That said, Peugeot dealers do have the ability to heavily discount certain items, and I know that filters are one such item - 50% odd rings a bell, and certainly the last OE filters I bought from there I managed to get for around £4 from memory because they were the older generation type and they were on the shelf.

You need to sweet talk the parts guy, i always give 50% off on service parts, especially on older models to try and keep people from the factors - but even with that discount i rarely compete on price.

But the trade price for the filter is £4.20 plus vat.
