Uprated Engine Mounts On Diesels?

Recommended Posts

Strictly_Derv

I'm wandering if anyone's had experience with uprated engine mounts on diesel 205's? I have a 1.9 DT engine in mine and the engine mounts really aren't up for the job. I have fitted a solid fork bush which made a noticeable difference, but not enough with slightly increase vibration.

I'm tempted to go and buy a BBM set but my main concern is the vibrations, I can imagine them being tragic! Or I could just go brand new OE top mounts and Grp N lower?

Don't see why they'd respond any differently in a diesel to a petrol, but from my experience with the BBM mounts on a petrol engine, yes there is a noticeable increase in cabin vibration at first but after a few hundred miles that more or less completely disappears, leaving you with an OEM feel.

Diesels are generally quite shakey compared to pretrols

I have a solid mount pressed into a housing which i was going to fit to my dturbo if i kept it - after thinking about it i decided it would be fatal for a daily!

What I mean is that the effect of fitting a stiffer engine mount would be the same, diesel or petrol. I doubt that the difference between the two would be enough to cause the rubber bush to fail in one and not the other. If this were teh case no doubt the BBM website would show a disclaimer to that effect.

Don't and that's talking from experience!

I'm not saying it would fail, it would just be a aweful for me due to the vibrations.

So would a solid fork, BBM lower and new top mounts be a safer option do we think?

I'd say don't put a solid bush in the fork either if you're worried about the vibration, but to be honest it depends what you're comfortable with so I couldn't say for you.

I run NEW standard mounts on my 6 engine

Just do the same.

Honestly if you put any type of group n bushe in your engine bay you will not have any teeth left in your head and I'm not joking

They (all 3 hard rubber) vibrate the dash on my girlfriends 1.8 16v 306 until it's warmed up, it's not unbearable.

I guess the 306 has LOADS more sound deadening.

They make the gear change fantastic.

My stripped out track car has all solid mounts Bar the top mount buffers and its fine. Vibrates on tick over but has zero sound deadening.

Every 205 xs I've owned it has been number one on my check list to put a solid hard rubber (bbm) mount in the lower mount (not the smaller fork)

My d-turbo 205 will be having genuine gearbox mount, genuine top mount and bbm lower mount.

It'll vibrate a bit but the slick gear change and the fact I'll never have to replace it more than make up for the downsides.

I've now got a 306 lower BBM bush, that will be going on with OE uppers if I can get hold of some. I've also purchased a short shift gear stick and adjustable linkages. Gunna be some slick shiftin'

Just been quoted £96 for the buffer, top and gearbox mount from Peugeot! Does that sound about right?

Is this not sinking in?

Your car WILL be shaking to bits with that BBM mount. We fitted one on Ryanstdt's 1.9 dt engine and we took it off 5 mins later it was unbearable!

Did the diesel not have slightly uprated ones anyway? Since it used to be the in-thing to fit a TD lower bush - ill have a gander on servicebox later to confirm. Maybe just get a 306 TD standard lower bush and new standard 205 for all the others.

Sam

EDIT - Checked and it turns out that the diesels do NOT have uprated mounts for either the 205 or 306, just the same part numbers as the petrols, apologies for confusing matters.

I have BBM engine mounts on my 205 GRD, and at idle it's like you bricks in the washer and put it on a spin cycle, but once you are driving it's not that bad.

I fitted them, as the lower engine mount failed, and could not have the car off the road, and I had the BBM mounts to hand.

I will be changing them again, when and if the SUN comes out again next.

You could fill the OEM bush with PU kit, same kit as used on the rear window. It will be stiffer as the OEM one, but not as harsh as BBM mounts.

That's the problem, if you took it off 5 minutes later then you didn't exactly give it a chance to bed in. The full BBM group N kit is quite stiff and does transmit a lot of cabin vibration from new, but after a couple of thousand miles it all settles down a lot and feels completely normal. I covered several thousand miles in my 205 as a 1.9 Mi16 mounted on full BBM rubber mounts and even from the start I didn't mind too much.

Ahh, in that case fair enough. They're probably too stiff for comfort with a diesel.

I've spoke to a few guys on 306OC who run big powered XUD's and they strongly recommend avoiding them unless its a weekend hack/track car. They say modified stock mounts are perfectly good. I'll give that a go instead I think.

Just fitted one on my 1.9 berlingo and I will be getting removed very shortly

While driving its absolutely brilliant. Then when you hit traffic it's crazy. Wipers coming on on their own and I think some fillings have come out

My 205 has solid alloy everywhere and it's not as bad
