Bonnet Inner Frame

Recommended Posts

Uberderv

Hi all,

After fitting a charge cooler in the engine bay of my GRDT I have discovered that the chuffing bonnet wont close fully.

My question is whether its ok to cut the convex shape out of the inner framework but still leave the flat part of the frame on?

You can see in the pic the position of the cooler so its a section directly above it.

Cheers Pete :-)

not helping till I see the project thread :P

not sure which bit you mean, but you can trim a lot of the bracing off without having it flop around too much.

The 205 Auto bonnets have the centre bracing cut out as standard and a bulge in the bonnet. this doesn't appear to reduce the rigidity. However I would not cut the side ones out

I've cut a bit out of mine and it's only noticeable when washing the car. However it's just a section around 35cm long above the air filter for the TB's, kind of above the slam panel.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

The section I need to chop is in the green circle -

My plan is to chop the bulge out of the framework to give me the extra clearance. The pic below is a highly detailed section of the bracing :-) the red line is where I plan to cut out giving me roughly 5mm more room.

Welshpug- I am planning a project thread, just a bit embarrassed how long its taking ha ha
