Gearbox Mount & Master Cylinder....

Recommended Posts

ORB

As we know there is an amount of adjustment on the gearbox mount. I notice (as my engine is loose fitted) I can change the gap for the master cylinder between the (GTI6) pulleys and cam covers.

Don't get me wrong, this could (and is) be a drunken iPhone in the garage thought, but is there a preferred setting for the mount in question?

I know that it's a case of each shell is different etc, but where have you positioned your GB mount and have you adjusted for the master cylinder??

May I note that my servo is currently master cylinder-less, as I am at the "engine in and engine out" stage of calculating exhaust fitment....

Does any of that make sense?

Normally with most 16v conversions, you need to lever the engine over towards the drivers side of the car and then tighten the gearbox mount to give clearance between the MC and cambelt cover. That's normally just about enough on Mi16's (although can still touch, particularly when cornering) but GTi-6's seem to often need more adjustment, hence people tilting the MC upwards, cutting the belt covers etc, depending on the shell in question.

Mine has:

Filed cam cover

3rd buffer

Shimmed buffer

Cut cambelt cover

Spaced servo (at the bottom,to tilt the mc upwards)

BBM mounts
