Turbo Kart

After running a superkart for the last year I was utterly fed up with the rebuilds, expense and the fact to have a run out I had to travel at least 150 mile. So I decided to sell up and swap for something a little different, I didn't want another 2 stroke so most kart engines where out of the picture and the honda singles & twins didn't have that kick I was used to. I didn't really want to spend over £1k so essentially I was stuck on the trackside spannering :(

I had a load of parts kicking around so I have been busy at work for the last few days as I have been unable to work due to the weather, my aim is to build something fast and reliable for less that £200. I found a b&s 22hp vtwin in the back of the container and with the first pull she fired straight up so with and engine I order some mounts from BIZ Karts and fitted the kart upto a old parolin rolling chassis. A clutch and sprocket was acquired from UKKartParts I had to cut the shaft down on the engine to fit the clutch but with it all bolted up I took it for a spin....

The kart proved very fun and powerful and with some 26lb valve springs it would run up to 7100 rpm which was around 75mph. Perfect! The only problem was the kart was super progressive and missed that kick that I loved about 2 stroked. I wondered.....

I found a really small turbo charger in the shed so in my infinite wisdom I decided that the best cause of action was to attach said turbo.

I plotted the engines air requirement and thing were looking good if not a little close to the surge line.

This is my progress ready for the first start tomorrow morning, if it works ill make a nice stainless pipe for the inlet and then go racing :)

Oh and it weights in and 27kg now I have removed the bulk of the flywheel so we are onpar with the TAG 2 strokes
