Knock Sensor For My 16V

Recommended Posts

Samson1886

Hi,

My car with XU10J4, check with Lexia showing 'Permanent Fault Knock Sensor'.

I've changed a couple of it from my local garage, after a few days of driving, the error come back again.

My initial thoughts would be the 'USED' knock sensor that i got it from local garage is defective.

Another thoughts would be the knock sensor is not compatible to my engine?

Checked the Citroen part number it is 5946.15

Is this same as Bosch 0261231071? Any other alternative that can be useable?

Thinking of changing a new knock sensor, but i just afraid is this the root cause & solve?

Does any of you have this kind of experience before?

I just don't want to change the new sensor unless for sure. It's not cheap though...

I notice that, whenever i crank & started my engine, the MIL will lit for another 2-3 sec prior off.

(That's trigger me to check with Lexia & discover this error)

My understanding is that the MIL will immediately off upon the engine is started.

Please comment.

Bell the wiring out first to make sure its not a break in the wire, dry joint or something silly like that. If I get on autodata before someone else ill give you the pins to check on the Ecu. What engine is the car from?

I've got a knock sensor from my xu7 16v which was known working as I broke the car up.

Yours if you decide you need another one ?

If it is compatible of course

XU7JP4 one is different Pete (it's 2 pin, whereas the XU10 is 3 pin - I suspect also that it's "tuned" differently for alloy vs iron block)

I don't think alloy vs iron comes into it, but frequency tuning is likely, the sensor shown in used on the ES9A and later ES9J4's and a few EW's.

Agreed, another example phase 1 xu10 xsara vts v's phase 2 xu10 xsara vts have different sensors 3 and 2 pin. if you struggle i have a spare 3 pin sensor.

Ah fury muff, makes sense I suppose.

I do have one on my xu10 but can't confirm if it works as I've never used it.

Hi Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.

I've actually checked the pins to the ecu connector (3 rows) using my multimeter/ohm meter by continuity test. It seems the wiring is in good contact.

The strange thing is that whenever a replacement of knock sensor (a used one) being replaced, it will functions. Things are okay. But for another few days of drivings, the fault will come back.

For your information, the replacement with used knock sensor is NOT 0 261 231 071. i used other part number but physically is the same. Could this be the main root cause?

Surprisingly the K-light (MIL) only stay illuminated for another 2-3secs after the engine is started. Thereafter, it is totally fine during idling or driving irregardless of any speed, the K-light will not lit up at all.

Welshpug, the autodata is a good info to obtain. I can at least check the signal from knock sensor instead.

I find the replacement from ebay (Premier Factors) is offering me GBP70.00++ including shipping. Yet the knock sensor offered is equivalent to Bosch brand.

What do you guys think? Or you have any other cheaper source that can advice?

can you source an used one? you will find it on the 8valve iron block engine, turbo and n/a, and the T16 and S16, also the ES9A, which is the newest variant of the V6 engines, the earlier 210 engines use a different part, you'll also find them on EW7's.

Welshpug, is the 8v iron block or rather most of options you mentioned above is using the same part number?

Please advise.

Thank you.
