Itg Foam Filters

Wondered if anyone can help.

Need to clean and re-oil the itg foam filter.

Heard you can clean it in soapy water and also petrol, contradicting stories on the internet.

Also would it be alright to just use engine oil to re-oil it?

I'm sure someone will come along and contradict me but I don't see a problem with hot soapy water for washing.

I've got a foam filter on my Ibiza, I bought a cleaning/oiling kit as I was paranoid about damaging the MAF. Wouldn't regular engine oil be a bit too thick and reduce air flow?
