Opinions On My Mum's Poor 106 Please

Recommended Posts

PeterGriffin

My mum's radiator burst on the motorway, unfortunately it got hot enough to blow the head gasket.

Confusingly the AA man said the heater matrix had gone (there was water in foot well) but garage disagree saying radiator, even though I don't get how you get water in foot well due to radiator leak...

Anywhoo, repair quotes are in the £800-1000 region - she only paid £900 for the car. 2002 Pug 106 1.1

I'm tempted to see if I can find her a wee diesel motor for that kind of money and just junk the 106 or sell for Spare / Repair.

Car is at total opposite end of country from me so I can't attend to help etc...

Opinions? Repair or change out the car? She does a lot of miles, hence me thinking a wee diesel for her.

Cheers folks! :)

£1000 seems a lot on a 1100 106 seems as they are one of the easiest to do. Have you got a second quote for the work? Just seems a little high to me

Weigh it in for scrap. Even if the total repair bill was half that price, is it worth it?

when HG's go they pressurise the cooling system, very often blowing the heater matrix.

personally if the rest of the car is decent I would find a cheaper garage and have them take a look, pressure test and compression test.

Yeah, my hands are tied with regards to getting quotes tho - unless anyone knows of a reliable / honest garage in the Cambridge area.

If I could get it repaired for £500 ish I'm pretty sure I could flog it on for £1000, adding to her war-chest.

I still don't understand the water issue, makes no sense, unless it happened like Omega suggests...!

Damn, I wish it wasn't so bl00dy far away, I just want to get my nose under it...

Thanks for your help guys
