Mi16 Belt Tensioners

Recommended Posts

bjmulford

Hi guys just a quick one, I couldn't find any answers on the forum anywhere.

Are the belt tensioning bolts on the D6C block torx or allen head, mine appear to be pretty chewed up and once i have eventually got them off, how can i set the tension on the belt without the need to buy the correct peugeot tool? anyone done this?

cheers B.

Doesn't matter what bolts you use as long as the thread and length are correct.

Correct tension is when you can twist the belt roughly 90 degrees on its longest run, AND get all pins in easily, follow the details in the Haynes manual.

ah thanks welshpug, i meant i cant undo the bolts which are holding in the old tensioners in. a torx tool seems a bit floppy in the bolt head - i'm just checking there wasnt a specific peugeot tool for these bolts. Am following the peugeot manual! will have a look at haynes cheers, b

The bolts are allen heads, but the sockets are too shallow and they round off way too easily.

If you strike them on the edge with a chisel then they should break loose. I replace them with normal hex bolts as it's easier to get a spanner between the engine and inner wing to nip them up.

Most did have hex bolts, Some of the unlucky ones where Allan headed bolt which are a pain, but just use a sump plug tool to undo them, no need to go near the bolt, replace them with some new ones, XU10J4R and RS ones fit fine

Don't you mean socket head? aka allen key?

the type tom mentions is what you would use a 13mm spanner onto.

Oh sorry one is 6mm allen key (above water pump) and the other one on the other side is a 13mm socket.
