Can you use 283mm discs on 406 brembos on 205 hubs?

Only asking as I have a brand new set of 283 omp discs

Thanks

Too small and too thin, you need xantia/c5 discs, 288x28.

Oh and earplugs, or tarox g88's, and bigger offset wheels or spacers.

Yes, its quite rare they dont when used on the lower radius hubs for some reason.

The benefits are hard to figure out given the downsides.

The discs required are 2kilos heavier, negating the 2kilo saving from the alloy caliper, which still isnt light at about 4kilos.

Pads are no larger, neither is piston surface area.

Save up for lighter brakes that still fit under 14/15" wheels imo, thats if you even need anything bigger than 247x20 and good pads.

Not only on smaller discs, they're common for a lovely squeal on the coupe without upgrading pads...

Would they fit under gti6 steels?

Too small and too thin

Not if they're 283 by 26 mm, which will work fine with Brembo's, to be exact.

But OP most probably has 283 x 22 discs, as you presumed.

why use 26 when they're designed for 28?

Because the discs in question may have been 26 mm thick. And they are designed for 305 mm, not 283, but that doesn't matter much.

When pads are at their lowest thickness with discs that are worn out (incidentally, that means 26 mm) they still function correctly,

so I can't see why they wouldn't work for quite some time on a 205 with new 26 mm discs and new pads. Some people use shims

behind the pads to make up the lost disc thickness.

And those 197/225 calipers that people use under SL434 wheels with 302x26 discs are also designed for 28 mm and they work fine.

Edit: Besides, those 288x28 Xantia discs are wrong offset and need machining of the face.
