Cost Of Getting A Car Trailered To The Garage

Recommended Posts

NOsMAN

The car is my 205 CTi which has just wasted another MOT, because the autobox has packed up straight after my last MOT. I have been down south and bought a replacement from Miles but never had the chance to get it fitted yet, which Im hoping to do now.

Need to find a local recovery service that will take my car to a pug specialist about 15miles away. Whats sort of costs am i looking at? hoping it will cost no more than £50, am i being realistic ? If not is it illegal for me to tow it there myself on a fixed towing bar going down a dual carriageway ? Bear in mind the car is currently out of MOT and has no insurance.

I would ask the place it is going to for the work to collect it. Seeing as they are going to be earning out of the job they may well do it for free or not very much. Otherwise ask them for a recommendation of somebody local to move it, chances are any garage will know of someone

Do you have roadside assistance of any sort?

It may sound weird but it may pay to ask one of your local scrap car collection people if they'd move the car for you.

I used a local one to me last year when i needed to move my Saxo VTS about 5 miles from my house to a workshop, when it was out of MOT, and the guy was happy to do it for £10 cash which i didn't think was too bad tbh.

dont think towing it with a bar would be a good choice, plod are bound to have you over for that on the no insurance front. and assuming its sorned you might get fined for having it on the road

I do but they will not take an uninsured car (RAC)

I didn't know any of the scrap / unwanted car collecting companies either tbh. I called one that advertises in my local paper, explained that i didn't have a car to scrap but needed a car moved and he agreed so long as i covered towards his petrol to do it, which as it was fairly local was only a tenner :)

Other than that the other suggestion would be to have a search of the Yellow Pages / Thomson Local or similar online search under car recovery. Most will normally charge a 1 off fee to cover the job (in my experience anywhere from £20 to £50) and then charge anywhere from £1 to £2 per mile travelled.

Just got a quote from somebody to hire a tow truck which is £95(per day) for 250miles and 9p for any additional miles, tempted to take up the offer and move to car further south ;)

Wheni got a car moved I went on ebay and searched for car transporters Theres a surprising amount of people who do it and are probably local to you too. Costs are decent and even cheaper if they've had to drop something off and coming back with an empty load.

This works well i sell cars for a living and we have all our cars delivered by a scrap man think he charges us £35 per car for 25 miles most of them would do it and there normaly the best as they lkie a bit of cash in hand no paper work = no tax
