Gti6 Cam Cover Gasket

Recommended Posts

jamie_1992

do you need a gasket to go between the head and the cam covers

i called peugeot to get a gasket and they told me it dose not have one its a flush fit

upon doing this then relized something is a miss

as the cam covers can not sit flush as as there is lugs where the bolt come through that sit higher than the edge of the cover

i asume the must be some sort of gasket that sits in here or im missing something i cant remember

Your bonded seal is missing, those covers are now useless, there is no separate gasket.

You would have to replace with a new cover, but one is NFP already.

I would bin that anyway. The paint will come off and clog up the oil ways and pump.

When I had mine powder coated they removed the seals, its not a massive problem you can use a sealant, not as tidy but does the job. If you go down this route spend a very, very, very long time cleaning both mating faces with some wet and dry ensuring they are spotless! - Bit is a bitch to get it to re-seal.

I tried getting new gaskets but they don't make them, Peugeot told me to use the gasket sealant.

Surely is would not be hard to get some made up? How thick are they?

Quite thick,I would guess circa 3mm.

You can use sealer, but its not ideal, way to thick a bead needed and you risk any excess dropping into engine.

Could one not be cut from cork like Oldschool gaskets?
