Indicators Died On One Side Of Car?

Recommended Posts

martyxs

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone had any ideas what might have caused this issue, I was just driving home from somewhere this evening, I indicated left and had the typical fast indicator clicking. I checked and all the left hand side indicators weren't working...(was hoping it was just a bulb of course).

My thoughts are:

bad earth

relay

fuse

bulb

faulty indicator stalk?

Has anyone had/seen this before or any ideas what might have happened. I was thinking if it was just a bulb that had gone it wouldn't mean the whole side of the car would go, a fuse would mean both sides going?

Faulty/worn stalk another underlying culprit is the hazard switch, give it a few rapid presses and see if your lights light up

I've had this before, one good way to check the stalk is to use the hazard switch which tests the circuit without relying on the stalk - mine turned out to be a grumpy earth (those little yellow multiplugs are very prone to corrosion).

If I understand how it works, the has to be a circuit if the flasher relay ticks, might be wrong though.

Typically its only the front side repeater and front indicator that play up not the whole side, in that case there is a two pin brown connector near the headlamp joining the front car loom to the indicator sub-loom, after that as mentioned check the earth.

Many thanks all, it was the same when I put the hazards on so I'll have a look out for that brown connector. That might explain things as I managed to spill some water when topping up the screenwash last week... I dried up around the battery terminals etc but a few other electrics may have got wet...

Did you find the reason mate? I've got a relay flasher on speed as well...

check the connectors that plug into the bulb holders they break/corrode hence the broken circuit making you think a bulbs blown especially the front indicator unit beside the headlight check there

hi

i had that problem with the left hand indicator it turned out to be the two yellow block connectors in the little plastic cover near the left hand inner wing looking in the manual it looks like an earth point i gave it a good clean and it sorted out the problem..

Yes if it's the front nearside indicators then check the earth point mentioned above.

If either front & side repeater stops working at the same time, I've always found the earth points to be the cause of it (one either side on the inner headlight mounting frame).

I've done away with the earth plates in favour of ring terminals on the earth wires bolted directly to the earth point using the same bolt that holds the earth plate to the chassis & never had any problems since.
