Highest Mileage 205...

Recommended Posts

eob

Bought it seven years ago with 167k and a frozen odometer and even at that I suspect it was clocked. I did about 25k a year for five years but replaced the odo twice in that time. I would wager it's done about 300k. Every single moving component has had to be replaced at least once. The subframe now needs welding. Even the windscreen had to go, not because it was cracked, but because it was covered in little scratches & chips. Only original component is the gearbox.

Trophy goes to thus guys who actually have verified mileage though, always thought the British ability for record keeping on cars was to be applauded.

Mi16. Original engine is in the corner of the workshop though. Head gasket failure but still runs. II had to use a very big Massey Ferguson tractor to get the rear beam apart it was that badly corroded and damaged at the stubs, both rear wheels rubbing off the inner wings on cornering. Rear pax side hub had to be angled ground apart like slices of pizza to get it off. Rear arches had detached from the shell and had to be rebonded.

Without some serious determination on my part and lots and lots of help from the usual suspects here (Miles, Anthony) and not to mention the UK squaddie who refused to sell it to a bunch of boyracers and sold it to me instead, it wouldn't be still around. That car would be melted down into Chinese rebar without the lads on here.

I'll bring her to a UK 205 meet sometime.

Just about to change suspension to bilstien b4 to try and keep it stock.

My rally car is on 163,000. I believe the engine is the original and goes well but is coming out now to make way for a MI. On my 3rd box now and no history of the beam so thats coming off too. Little overhaul going on.

My mate said his nan had a 1.1 205 which she had from new - i cant verify it but apparently it had been round the clock.

Someone i know has just taken a 411000 engine out of a nova, so there are a few out there

It was a bit fecked like. Don't think the engine wouldn't lasted another mile from the sound of it

Like I said, I can't verify this. I think it's probably bull as well, but it must have done a lot of miles for him to say it

Rally car is on approx 175,000. Or at least the dash maybe is (probably higher as the speedo cable spent a year broken). Might not do any more miles now as it lives at my parents 130 miles away and I've no time or storage here.

G reg 1.9 is on about 136,000 but it needs an inner wing repair to get another MOT, and a tester that'll ignore the oil it burns. Engine has never been touched.

F reg 1.6 is the low mileage one in the fleet on 77,000. Only non-original parts are the clutch replaced at 66,000 before I bought it, the interior clock and service parts. It starts first turn of the key and even idles properly cold or hot!!

I did own briefly a 1.6 with 213'000 on the clock, engine felt like a 1.3 rather than a 1.6!

Anyone interested in how far a sensible diesel 205 can go?

I've had it since it was 3 years old, now its 18 years and still in daily use and still getting 60mpg.

Original gearbox, clutch and engine.

297,000 miles and its just passed another 12 months MOT.

It's girly drivers are planning a cake for the big 300k.

My first GTI a 1.6, had 165k on the clock after a rebuilt head at 114k, it was on a G plate and I chopped it in for a V6 Mondeo. This was in 2001, I doubt it is still around. G881AVL. At the time, I needed a bigger car, but very quickly regretted my swap. :(
