Arch Clips And Other Body Clips/brackets - What Breaks?

Recommended Posts

I need a little help here folks.

A little later this year my 205 is going to be treated to a bare metal respray which will involve removing all the plastic trim pieces, badges, glass etc etc etc...

What I'm trying to find out is which parts, ie trim clips are likely to break when the trim is pulled off. I'm most concerned about the clips that hold on the plastic arch trims. I assume these are no longer available? If not there is a chance I may be able to make some at work but would need a new clip to work off. Does anyone have a clip or two I could buy/borrow for a while??

I wont be doing the stripping so it'll be handy to find out from those that have experience which bits are likely to break! Its a sunroof car so the top of the sunroof at least will be coming of too!

Also how easy is it to re-attach the rear quarter badges if the pins break on the rear?

The two usual issues are that the metal clips that secure the lower part of the door and rear arch trims will likely all be rotten and disintegrate, and that the front and rear bumper bolts will likely be rusted and snap when you try to undo them. The bumper bolts are still available new, but I believe that the metal clips are only available as part of the complete trim clip set.

The plastic arch clips are generally easy enough to remove without damage providing that you're not too heavy handed with them.

Re-attaching the rear quarter badges is easy enough, either using some strong double sided foam tape, or using some form of sealant or adhesive.

Hopefully that doesn't sound too bad. Are arch clips still available at all?

I'm sure they wont all survive, just trying to be prepared!
