Mi16 205, Tilting The Radiator But Still Using The 205 Oil Cooler?

Recommended Posts

Basset

Hi, I want to swap my shortened inlet manifold for a full length manifold and ideally keep the original 205 oil cooler as its fine for what I use the car for. Has anyone done this before? Thought I'd ask before I wreck a fan cowling lol. I've searched this but can only find pictures etc of cars with aftermarket coolers fitted, if anyone has any info it's pics I'd be greatful.

Cheers

Rob

The inlet manifold has nothing to do with the oil cooler?!

HTH.

It doesn't, but it's fitted in front of the radiator which I need to tilt forward to get clearance for the inlet manifold, doesn't look like the oil cooler pipes will clear the radiator if I tilt it forward, was wondering if anyone has used this set up and made it work?

Cheers

Rob

I realise it doesn't, but your post doesn't really make sense. Give us a clue...!

The std 8v oil cooler can be used with an Mi16 though yes. Presuming you mean does it still fit, it'll be tighter of course, it's always different car to car, but you should be able to keep the oil cooler where it is and slim the cowling down to get the rad tucked in a bit more for space for the fanimold without fouling it.

By chopping / altering the cooling fan shroud the bottom of the radiator doesn't move, only the top is angled forwards to give the extra clearance.

I made two strait lower radiator brackets and lowered the whole radiator and then cut a bunch of meat out of the fan shroud. and now i run 2x fans with standard MI intake and standard size radiator, so should be no problem running your oil cooler check the photos below, Sorry there are alot of photos on that page but they are in there somewhere haha

Hi Basset, yep i know exactly what you mean. the problem with the stock oil cooler and mi inlet manifold means youve got to tilt the rad. dont even bother hacking the shroud around cause it still wont fit! what you will need to do is make some bespoke brackets up to support the rad at the bottom and top to tilt the rad. Then the stock oil cooler definitely doesnt fit because of the metal pipes connected to the rubber ones, they wont go round the side of the rad. What i'm gonna do is use some aeroquip type hoses which will be longer, then mount the oil cooler behind the rad in front of the gearbox. This means i can run a twin fan setup (which will have to be about 9") so i can fit the front grill back where its supposed to be with you gussed it, more custom bracketery!!

Get rid of the oil cooler!

It's only useful on track.

I've not had one for 8 years.

On track the oil temps went wild.

Climbing mountains at 30deg it's fine.

Don't bother with twin fans the single one is fine and cools down perfectly.

If you change fan upgrade to an 11" spal pulling fan.
