Cause Of This Sunroof Leak?

Recommended Posts

ScoobyJawa

Hi all

Any ideas what could cause a leak to be dripping from the marked section below?

IMG_0674_zpsca56e696.jpg

Its the passenger side of the sunroof and drips off this black section, soaks the headlining and runs down the door seal into the passenger footwell. Drain hole is fine. Car also sits slightly leaning to the front and passenger side on the drive so would cause things to run towards the front passenger side.

Is it likely to be the sunroof vacuum seal or some other issue with a hole in the mounting somewhere?

Thanks

Neil

I am noticing the exact same problems as you are having!

Passenger footwell puddle, tracing it up to a soaking headlining, pulling that back at the corner to reveal what looks like a lot of condensation. Only seems to happen on the angle the car is parked in the rain.

I've only slightly started looking at it today, but my first guess has been the screws for the wind deflector that people put on the sunroof, however, I've noticed the water across the whole passenger side of the car, above the door. I'm going to remove that deflector once and for all one of these days. I really don't want to pull off the headlining entirely, but things are looking like I might have to.

I've seen some threads on here that suggest it could be possibly the rivets for the sunroof letting water in, and in that case, the guy pretty much removed the sunroof and reattached it. I'll be bloody annoyed if that's the cause, so I'd put that as last ditch attempt.

If you've not done so, have you checked the aerial? That was a cause of water entering in one case for me (water trickling through the light), and sealing that up has meant the centre front is dry, it only appears to be the passenger side corner.

Having said that, I've not pulled back the driver's side, but it isn't wet to touch, meaning at the very least its not wet enough to soak through. Doesn't mean it's not the case though.

Aerial is in bad shape but doesn't appear to leak but I'm going to fix that anyway, cheap enough from Pug. I have same, under headlining is condensation central. Its typical I have it on both my 205's in the same place, one has the deflector one doesn't. I had a quick further look yesterday and I'm thinking it could be running all the way along this black piece from the rear, so it could be the rear drain hole that is an issue. Think I need to get the outer trim off next.

Drivers side seems fine, but I say the car sits on the drive with the passenger front lowest on both....

Like you though, I bloody hope its not the rivets!

Well I think I've found it, took the sunroof out and completely removed the headlining and both rear drain holes where the rubber pipe joins have corroded to oblivion!!

How do I go about fixing them?

I thought I saw a thread where someone had fixed theirs but searched and couldn't find it.

Oh good grief, the rear drain holes?

I do remember reading about that one, and it rusting away, I think it was this thread:

Urgh, I was really hoping it wasn't going to be near the rear, as that means taking out the trim above the rear windows, and I spent quite a chunk of time sealing that up. Gonna leave it on the back burner.

Lesson learnt: buy a non-sunroof model.

I did the same with the rear windows, but I was able to get one side trim out without disturbing and left the other in place so I just freed the headlining everywhere else then pulled it out of the side with the trim still on, think that makes sense. Its a bit of a faff, but if I'd done that first there would have been no need to remove the sunroof and trim on the outside lol! Still at least I know how it all goes together now!

Thats the post I was looking for - thanks :) Looks like I need some copper pipe and tiger seal. I'll get a pic up of the offending items too. Absolutely stupid design by Peugeot :(
