Where Is My Leak Coming From

Recommended Posts

TaffyTim

The other day I got into the pug after it had been stood for a while without being used and the passenger footwell was like a fish tank.

The car has no carpet so i dried it out and have been searching for the leak.

Since I dried it out I havent used the car and have found the puddle has started to come back. Its collecting more towards the gear stick than the door and i found that if a pressed the sound deadening on the bulk head where the passengers feet would be then this is sopping wet and it dribbles water to said area.

As its not been driven Im pressuming its not coming from the heater matrix so how is this water getting in? Will there be a blocked gully somewhere?

Hello mate, I found water in front pass. footwell but turned out to be coming from rear floorwells and that was coming from rear seat "bowl".

Found a ropey rear 1/4 window seal and re-fitted today with silicone in the groove - need rain to see if works...!

Check the back also, if that's wet, look under rear seats. I'm fixing one thing at a time cause I don't want to seal dozens of areas and not know where the leak was...!

Good luck, water in car is a pain in the @rse...

The rear quarter seals were done a couple of years ago, and this was my first thought but i dont think its at fault here.

Have you checked the grommets in the engine bay? (Particularly the one behind the coolant bottle?)

Sunroof? (Fibre washers are a common cause)

Under the scuttle where the heater box lives?

The car has not been driven so would the grommets come into party?

I don't have a sunroof.

Not checked under the scuttle, what should I be looking for?

Without any carpets in the door seals can leak as they don't sit a high & seal as well imo.

This was my first thought when I saw it so I have re sat the seals and every time I go to dry the puddle out I make sure the metal on the inside of the door seal is dry, which it is. So I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the door.
