where about is it advertised? It looks a familiar registration to one that was for sale up here a month or 2 ago. Was/is it not needing a fair bit of work?

I saw it on gumtree, not here but, as said, that was a while ago and has probably been sold since.

yes thats where i am looking at buying it from . The current owner has said that its known on one of the 205 websites and I thought i would check on here. The ad also says it is in very good condition too so i thought i would ask on here if anyone knows the car before i drive 5 hours to collect it.

Remember and check everything on it, there's a lot of information on here to give you advice on what to look out for. Even though the owner claims it is 'very good condition', from experience, i wouldn't go with his word!

When were you thinking of going to see it?

Well if you need a hand looking at it, just give me a shout as is only about 45 mins from me and should be free but if you're following the articles, you should be fine. Remember check that back axle and also for rust/accident damage!

It's still running 8v management, not proper Mi16 Motronic.

It isn't a limited edition model.

The conversion looks neat enough and the price is pretty good imo,but it is on the 8valve management as it has the dizzy adapter.

A car closer to home?

Each to their own but there is no way I would travel 270 miles to view a 205 unless it was VERY special, but that one just looks like many others out there that will be similar.

The distance is definately the downfall.

I dont mind travelling if the car is "as described" especially as there arent many others the same as this one for sale at the moment for a similar price

"as described"

And there is the downfall, because after being kicked around ebay and Gumtree for a few months, the chances are it almost certainly won't be.

I have to say I agree with Tom here. These cars still aren't that rare yet and there are plenty of already converted Mi16's around. Even if in the seller's eyes the car is exactly as good as he's described it, you might not think so yourself when you go to see it, and 270 miles is a long way and a lot of fuel money spent which you won't get back. I can understand being eager to buy and enjoy one of these but I'd definitely recommend being patient and waiting for one closer to home to come up. :)

if it were as described and a fair price, I would have thought it would have gone already...

If it was for sale on eBay /piston heads I would be thinking the same but from what I can find its only been advertised on gumtree. I've never used gumtree before and only found it by accident hence I thought he hadn't sold it because he's advertised it on a lesser known website. I am thinking though that it may be too far to trailer it back from . Anyone know of any others for sale?

it's a rubbish time of year to sell a car as well and the location doesn't help (i know too well <_< )

Just because it hasn't sold, doesn't mean it's a scrapper. Price isn't too bad if it's ok but don't expect it to be perfect. Get him to send you lots of pictures of it, mainly of the rust spots (inner wings, sills, boot floor, under rear seats, jack points etc). Ask him specific questions about play in back axle + front wheels; condition of brakes, tyres, clutch, electrics. Ask if it it using coolant/oil, are there any oil leaks etc etc etc? All this could either save you a long journey or get you a lot of money off ;)
