New 208 Gti

Recommended Posts

PeterGriffin

Hi folks, anyone been keeping up to date with the new 208 GTi, due April / May?

29 Lim Ed's coming out sooner than others but you don't get to testdrive...

LINKY

I've been struggling recently to get any work done on my 205 as my other motor is an impudent old Jag XJR which doesn't like the cold, so I've been thinking of summat newish and reliable for when these two play up, and also to give them a rest..

Anyone else been reading up on them? I'm sure I saw an autotrader review on the 1.6 THP 156bhp and even that wasn't too shabby. GTi apparently has reworked steering, susp, and 197bhp. Tasty.

I think whoever thought of the 29 LTD editions should be shot, since when has 29 been special!?:wacko:

IMO it would have been far better to release the gti then do a proper maybe slightly higher power special edition at the 30 year mark.

But I bet the guy's in charge are still cringing that the marketing department are still trying to compare it to the 205

I'd like a try - if it's a 1/4 of a 205 it's got something....

What I want know is. . . When are all the French manufacturers going to get rid of that ugly quarter light window by the wing mirror! They didn't need it in the eighties, and still don't!

All the other manufacturers don't use it so why continue, always makes cars look like MPV's!

Other than that and the dodgy shaped headlights I think they are on the right lines there!

Should do well if it handles and goes well!

The shape of the doors necessitate the 1/4 light.

I thought the sketches and concept looked good, but for some reason that looks fat and gash and no different to any other 'hot (fat) hatch' on the market at present.

I like the alloys do you think they would look nice on a 205 ?

Money is not the issue but will they suit a 205 1.9 gti ?The original speedlines are iconic on the 19 and give it its unique identity dont want to lose that unless the 208 gti alloys look out of this world on it what do you think?

Do you have eyes? Cos if you do, you're in as good a position as the rest of us to decide if they'd look any good on a 205 GTI

My 2 cents worth, I think they'd look gasher than a gash thing. MIght as well sling any old blingy over sized aftermarket alloy wheels on the 205 if that's what floats your boat, cos these ones won't look any better. All you'd be paying for is the Peugeot lineage, which is utterly redundant.

Too big, too ugly, too shiny, too ugly, bound to be the wrong offset, too ugly.

Did I mention that they're ugly?

I think they look well nice oné of the best looking alloys ive seen in years. When you say to big in what way ? Rubbing on rear arches or what?I have coilovers so i can always raise the suspension to suit etc.

I agree. Ugly ugly alloys. There are another set available for the 208 gti that are slightly less ugly. If I were to buy a 208 gti I'd be tempted to go with a set of speedlines similar to the 205 gti or the 208 R5.

I'd give my left nut for a 208 R5 road version.

I think if you have a 205 with adjustable coilovers, and then decide to fit 17" wheels, and then have to raise the height to accommodate said wheels, then you are kind of missing the whole point of a 205 GTI. In which case, fill yer boots

So what your saying is that 17s will mess up the legendary 205 handling up?

Interesting point you would rather go for the 19 speedlines than the 208 gti alloys and you also think they are ugly.

I sat in a diesel version in Medowhall, The salesman told me they weren't making a GTi version..... after I said I was waiting to see the GTi.

The dash popped up with adverts on the sat nav display advertising the coming soon the GTi, just after he said it! talk about Egg on face! lamo!

I liked it, I'd have one, but after hearing the special edition gti will be 20K and the gti not much less....I thought nar!!

12K is my budget for a new sporty Peugeot, sorry!

7K for when it's a few years old which is probably what the 20K special editions will be worth!

Well roll on the comparisons...again!!!! aren't we getting bored of these yet??

"look! the new 208 gti is faster in a straight line it must be better....."

"look the 208 gti is quicker round our track, which proves it's better..."

It's a different car in a different eara, start something new Peugeot FFS!

Bob have you had too much christmas ch(b)eer? I think youve missed the point completely. The wheels look ok. Thwy dont suit a 205. They were designed for a 208. They dont really suit that either. At the end of the day its your car do what you want and stop acting like your back is up against a wall.

In contrast to other recent (as in 10-15 years back) Peugeot crap, I think 208 actually looks pretty good.

It's nice to see the R5 version using 205 T16 style PTS colours too :).
