What Is The Correct Ignition Leads Order ?

did you go to my link? did you hear the engine ? i was hoping to hear from someone what could it be .

by the way , checked and they appear to be the same as in your picture

 

1.left up.

2.left down

3.right up

4.right down.

 

(standing facing the engine bay)

 

i feel that something is working "backwards" something i never heard before!

managed to turn it on!!!!! only after i disconnect the AFM plug!!!

it runs poorly of course!

when i plug it back , it goes with the RPM up for 4 seconds and car shuts down!

Also , there is a sound of air leak around the throttle

AFM bad???

How can I test if the inlet manifold fitted properly? I suspect the air leak is from there!

Yes, I listened to your clip but tbh its not really cranking or firing for long enough to make much in the way of a diagnosis.

 

Are the leads running to the correct plugs when you follow the leads along? Not forgetting the firing order is 1-3-4-2 & #1 is flywheel end?

 

Has this just begun to happen & if it has, what have you do since it last ran ok?

 

If you fitted the inlet manifold with the correct gasket then imo you can't fit them wrong but did you bleed the fuel system through if you've had it all disconnected?

That's a squeak/hiss of leaking air somewhere not a beep.

 

it would be advisable to keep all your posts in one thread BTW.

 

Given that it will start with the AFM disconnected then it hints at a fuelling issue, so you need to test the AFM and the Coolant temperature sensor.

 

it would also be wise to clip the ignition leads into the holder and confirm they are in the correct order as mentioned by Graham in your other thread.

The squeak that you hear at the end is the afm closing as the air stops rushing through it.

Yes they are the same as in your photo.

About firing order - what do i do with this information :) ?

I Since it ran ok last time (5 months) , i worked on the loom , disconnected inlet manifold , renewed injectors at Mad Professor

and you know , normal things.. nothing special.

If you fitted the inlet manifold with the correct gasket then imo you can't fit them wrong but did you bleed the fuel system through if you've had it all disconnected?

it is the correct one it went smooth and the holes fitted perfectly

 

How & what do you mean to bleed the fuel system?

as far as i know , the fuel filter in my car has no bolts! it screws in and has no contact to the inlet manifold

am i wrong?

The oil filler tower bolts to the plenum. At this age the bracket has snapped but is normally fixed by the forementioned bolt.
With the bolt missing in unmetered air is entering and causes a rough idle/running.

How & what do you mean to bleed the fuel system?

 

The leads need to be in the correct order on the plugs, not just the cap.

 

If you've had the fuel system apart, you will have added air into the system so unless you prime the system separately, it'll take a while to regain stable system pressure & purge the air.

 

I usually hard wire the fuel pump for a few seconds whenever I split the fuel system, also this way you can test for leaks without the engine running.

was late at night , i kept reading "filTer" instead of FILLER"

turned the car on today and kept the revs above 2500 so the car won't turn off

even then there is some kind of instability

checked all hoses , especially the one of the oil filler and everything is tight and secured

sometimes there is a smell reminds me the small of a chainsaw!

what else should i check?

How many sensors plugs there is in the engine bay there is? I know there is 2 : the white one on the gearbox , and the blue/green one under the dizzy, are there more?

could be that the plug which is connected to the afm , one of it's wires is cut or not connected

checked the wire plug that goes into the AFM , all ok , all there

I'm in desperate need of ideas where to check..

BTW i ask again

white two pin on the gearbox is the rverse light sitch, nothing to do with the engine management.

 

Which cyctem do you have? Motronic or Jetronic?

 

check ecu, distributor and AFM part numbers.

 

other sensors are the throttle position switch, coolant temperature sender (blue two pin on thermostat housing)

 

Inlet air temp is part of the AFM.

 

you also have the SAD, but these rarely give running issue other than being a bit sticky causing high idle, or the pipework leaking.

 

you also have the Dizzy, which differs in ignition curve between 1.6 and 1.9, and Motronic is ecu controlled where the distributor purely distributes the spark and nothing else (this system has a crank sensor)

I have DKZ engine , with Jetronic (340) ECU .

 

check ecu, distributor and AFM part numbers.

ECU - 340 . Dizzy - 2525640bf7. AFM - 202. nothing was changed/ replaced since it ran good before the work was done on the car. (even there is a mess with 1.6/1.9 parts)

Is there a way to check them (for example their resistance) with a multimeter?

The thing that is strange for me is that when connecting the AFM , it runs ok for 4 seconds with a bit high rev. (about 3) and then shuts down.
