Wheel Options For 205

Recommended Posts

minimaniacwhyard

im going to lower my 205 on Saturday along with stripping the old underseal off and renewing what i can. this is the start of what i hope to big a long term project, im stuck on what wheels to use though. im going to lower it around 50 60mm any more just seems excessive. im going for the raylle look as i dont want to piss about with putting arches on. so steel wheels all the way. just dont know what to look for to avoid rubbing. will try and get some pictures up this weekend aswell weather permitting. any help would be good help. :)

ps im starting with a base model 1.1

Have a look in my garage at my 205 XS and 205 Junior D. The Junior D rubbed with 15" at the back and I had to lip the arches up on the front but the XS was dropped on its backside with no rubbing on 14". It drove like sh!te though! The easiest way is 1.6 14" GTI wheels and 185/60/14 tyres, or 306 14" steels should fit.

Read around about refurbishing the rear beam as you ought to do this whilst you have the rear beam in pieces, or at least grease it all up etc.

Also I would perhaps tackle the back first as the front may be easy by comparison.

Finally, I would personally not spend too much time stripping underseal off as if it hasn't split then it is probably pretty good underneath. Probably check the front inner wing seam though. The rust tends to come in other places apart from the wheel arches on a 205. It isn't a Clio / Nova / Astra / Fiesta / Escort..... !

Thanks for the help its raining here today so no lowering going on. Maybe tommorow. I did try and find some 205 pepper pots off the 1.6 but theres none near me. The rear beams perfect i actually work as a mechanic for peugeot which is helpfull on the tool side of things. Ill have a look at the inner wing seam though. After ive done mine ive got to lower my gfs 205 aswell but shes got a 1.8 d with speedlines on. There gonna rub like hell might have roll the archs on that one. How low is the xs you have? And do you have any pictures?

Cheers for the help

IIRC it was a GTI 60mm lowering kit, so about half a mile on an XS!

I don't think rolling the arches is going to achieve much on a base model shell I'm afraid. 15x6 is simply too big, the entire time I had 14x6 wheels on my cars they all scrubbed with rebuilt beams and stiff shocks! You will have to stick to 5.5j without modifying anything if you want it to bottom out without scrubbing on the outside lip.

I wouldn't suggest going lower than 30mm also as it will have a negative effect, well on everything.

how about 106 rallye steel wheels? can still get them new and they look great on base models in my opinion :)

would go well towards the rallye look too

Also rolling the back arches is not really an option as it is double skinned and would also look a bit poor. Tyre make often has quite an effect as some have squarer side walls than others. You may need to put some washers in the rear bumper too to get you a couple of extra mm of rearwards suspension travel.

Rallye wheels should work if you use the s1 5.5" version, s2 are 6".

The wheels henry used were 5.5" wide.
