Xu5/9 8V Crank Pulley Offset

Recommended Posts

Anyone got an 8 valve XU to hand they could measure up quickly for me?

I'm after the depth of the timing pulley, and the depth of the auxillary pulley from its mating face to the timing pulley to the first groove.

I have an XU7J4 PAS non aircon arrangement and not yet sue if this will work on the 8 valver as the 16v lower timing sprocket may be wider, due to a wider belt.

I will post the XU7 data shortly.

Aren't these one & the same pulley?

I've got a couple of 8v crank pulleys handy including one of Tom's alloy ones.

erm, no.. aux pulley drives the auxillary things...

XU7 also has a different oil pump sprocket, at least to the 9J4, which uses a separate spacer.

Overall depth to the oil pump drive sprocket itself is the same though, 45mm from the outer side of the timing drive teeth.

here's the distance from the block to the first groove (crap pic, but its pretty much 50mm):

Here's the arrangement minus alternator.

The initial reasoning for this thread was to see if the XU7J4 alternator and PAS pump brackets could be used on an 8v XU5 or 9, given I already have them to hand.

Just tried to fit the brackets to an old 8v block I have lying about, seems there's a fair difference DOH :(

Lower bracket goes on the block fine, but the lower inner mounting hole just isn't there, though the other pair and dowel are fine.

As for the middle bracket, the hole above the oil filter is present, as is the one further out, BUT, the block is 16mm away from the bracket, and the upper fixing just has nothing whatsoever near it.

Top of the block is also different where the engine mounting bracket goes, 8v one bolts to the side, 16v bolts on the front, so several differences again.

bang goes that idea, but would still be useful to see if the 8v crank sprocket and pulleys are vastly different or not, for those that might be wanting to use one as a basis for a fresh 8v build.

Just braved the elements to do a quick vague measurement.

This looks to be Circa 35mm, so a significant difference!

Ok, by timing pulley I thought you meant the one with the timing hole in & the aux belt fits on when you actually meant the crank pinion behind it.

The XU7 crank pinion looks the same as the XU5/9 ones I've got here.

this is the orientation of the woodruff key to the timing teeth (which as shown above is different to the older XU9J4, XU10J4R and RS also use the later orientation)

is the 8v one 28mm side as well?

here's the total width of the XU7 pulley

With the XU7 pinion sat in the same orientation as it would on the crank, is there still a keyway difference between the XU7 & XU9/10J4 etc pinion?

I'll measure an 8v one later but I think they'll be the same 28mm width, the XU7 8v uses the same part number on service box of 0513.37 where the 16v uses 0513.77, same as the XU10J4RS.

yeah, doesn't matter if I put it on back to front, keyway doesn't move and is still different to the MI16.
