Yep the 205 is crowned the greatest of them all :)

The only one which is visited by genius. Wanted to buy a copy but mrs complained, lol. It's in the Christmas special edition

VW Golf Gti Mk1 not in the list then?

Must be a French panel of judges :)

Its certainly the best of the old school type of hot hatch, other than maybe the clio williams. The Golf mk1 is maybe cooler but not as capable.

Its a shame the hot hatch has grown up into the large turbo charged vehicles today as they have evolved into a different class entirely.

it was the 1.9

VW Golf Gti Mk1 not in the list then?
it was the 1st car the 1.9 it had to contend with ;) and it had to compete with the lancia integrale in the final of the old school hot hatches. It was then pitched at the best modern hot hatch which it beat :D

had the plearure of owning a mk1 golf gti with the 1.9 engine conversion it was a nice car but i didn't think it was in the same league as a sorted 205 1.9 gti,the 205 was faster handled better and drove nicer,i thought the golf felt a much older car than the 205,and the mk2 was just a heavy lump :D

The 'best' cars I have owned in order of how much I loved them:

Mk1 Golf GTi. Y plate. Black. Excellent condition. Totally standard. - Sold for £300 in about 1993. (idiot).

Mk2 3ltr, Capri Ghia X (rare manual). It was in very good condition but starting to rot.- Sold for £30 in 1995 (idiot).

Mk3 Cavalier. Track day car. Spent £35k on it. 276bhp on 2ltr NA, etc etc. Great fun, but mega expensive to keep running.

Where does/will my G plate 205 Mi come in?

Not sure yet. But expecting it to be above the Cav and probably vying with the Golf for the Nr1 spot.

We also host the Hot Hatch World Cup, with Andrew Frankel as referee. The competition pits the best hot hatches of all time in one competition, and the best of the current breed together in another, with the two finalists then going head-to-head in a winner-takes-all showdown. Star cars include the Peugeot 205 GTI, Volkswagen Golk GTI Mk1, Lancia Delta Integrale, Ford Focus RS Mk1, Renaultsport Clio, BMW M135i, Ford Focus ST and Mini Cooper S.

I don't mean to step on your toes, but if anyone with a scanner has bought it, don't scan it. If you want to read the article go shell out a couple of quid for the magazine!!

was going to say because its more a saloon than a hatch, but i suppose its as much a hatch as an rs turbo

imo any car with a flat bit behind the rear window, even if it has a hatch is a saloon car or maybe a coupe

Got my copy & it's a really good article with some surprising head to heads on the way to the final round.

Well worth the £4.99 plus you get a free Renaultsport 2013 calendar.:)

TBH, would rather have a mk1 Golf 1.8 GTI or a mk2 Golf GTI 16V than a Pug 205 GTI.... That said I would like a 205 GTI lol
