TBH, would rather have a mk1 Golf 1.8 GTI or a mk2 Golf GTI 16V than a Pug 205 GTI.... That said I would like a 205 GTI lol

Not wishing to give the article away too much but they pitch the Mk1 GTI & 205 against each other & the 205 wins, obviously as it wins outright agianst some surprising opponents.

i've never been in a mk1 golf gti but I think they look really cool. I know three people who have had them and had jap cars ever since. I think there was some teething issues with the mk1?

I have a few friends with mk2 golfs, none of which have the original engine in. Was the original really that bad? Even a 205 1.6 is ace fun. My personal opinion is golfs are ok but it just seems much more serious, mature than a 205, a bit dull? Good from a technical point of view. I can see the appeal.

Is a lancia delta integrale in the same category? (if only lancia's didn't rust, I would have one) I think people always think about hot hatches being a balance between affordable and fun but todays hatches are ridiculously priced, maybe they should start a new category for pimp hatches. e.g. audi rs3

The integrale is one of the car in the past masters contenders along with the 205 GTI 1.9, the Clio Williams isn't included, I assume it didn't make the cut between the journalists for inclusion which is somewhat surprising considering how it was so well regarded in its day but the new Clio is included in the new breed of hot hatches so maybe that is why.

lol... I've owned MK1 & 2 Golfs, and now both GF and I have 205's... I like them, always have done... But if offered or had money etc for either then I know what I would have... I'm not biased to one manufacture etc as have owned various Fords, Fiat & Vauxhalls too... If I like it by looks, how it feels etc then I'll have... So far my fave is the MK1 Golf... but prices are just stupid really, same for MK2 Golfs also, where as I have seen loads of 205's that are in my price range, ie cheap lol. And as said I like it, and have no plan to change it any time soon.
