Number Plate Laws

This link, whilst not the actual legislation, does explain things quite well.

cheers, that helps a little, but as usual trying to find out what the law actually is, proves quite tricky!

As far as I can tell, if the font is not the new type, it has to have been on the car since before 2001, and has to be 'similar' to the current font?

Ahhh, so this is one of those motoring laws where the only clear answer is that which comes from the nice traffic officer when he tries to book you on an ambiguous offense.

hit the nail on the head there GLP, the police dont like another aspect of my car (which after spending hours sifting through construction and use acts etc, is not in breach of any laws), and have failed on many attempts to scare me into changing it, so are now trying another method!

Now I'm all for being different, and fair play to you, your car is different to the rest of them out there, BUT, when it comes to grief like this and you are using it as everyday transport to work, surely it is not worth the hassle, and you would be better off changing whatever is upsetting them for an easy life? Nothing to say you can't alter it back for going to shows or whatever, but personally getting pulled over on the way to work is not what I would call fun.

I agree with you there tom and I have changed several things to 'comply' with what they want. But the things that they have asked to be changed, after reading up on the laws of it, arent illegal. So they seem to be employing the tactic of inconveniencing me as much as possible because the cant do anything about it in a legal sence

And to make matters worse, the last time when they made me get the train was after a 12 hour nightshift!
