Faded Cherry Red - Advice / Options

Recommended Posts

Matt205

Hi all,

Having recently completed a GTI6 conversation, my thoughts are turning to the cosmetics. The car is faded cherry red. Will I achieve improvement thought either mechanical or manual cutting polishing etc or due to lacquer is it a lost cause. If the latter I'll be considering a re-spray at some point, but having just completed the conversion I'd like to enjoy it through 2013 before I have it sprayed.

Advice greatfully received.

I have found that some are lacquered and others not, so first off get some cutting compound and have a rub at an area that isn't too visible. If your cloth goes red then it isn't lacquered, if it just looks a bit mucky but NOT red then it most likely is.

If its lacquered then there isn't much you can do, if it isn't then a good machine polish is worth a try, you've nothing to really lose.

Looks like mine is lacquered. Bugger. Body shop at some point in 2013 then.
