Compomotive Th Supplier 16X7

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for a good while but can't find a supplier of compomotive TH's in 16' in the correct offset. Can anyone point in the right direction?

Thanks

(compomotive website doesn't list them in 16' in the TH design I want?)

Yep as said ring them, they do them in batches when they get enough orders but they may have some on the shelf. They're dead helpful normally ;)

Not sure they do the Motorsport ones (as pictured) anymore though just the TH monos

Google Carlisle Wheel and Tyre - give them a call

They can normally sort them, they got me some three stud MO's for an AX GT before now.

Another option would be to speak to Martin @ Reyland - www.reyland.co.uk

They may specialise in Ford, amongst others, but he's a Compomotive dealer, and in some cases his prices are actually cheaper delivered than going direct to Compomotive themselves :)

From Mr Barry at Compomotive

Thank you for your mail as below.

Yes the TH one piece wheel was made in 7x16 and the tooling for such does exist. However as it is not part of our current line up we have a minimum foundry production quantity of 60 rims.

We do periodically produce batches of the 8x16 TH1680 rim, but this only happens maybe once or twice a year.

Right now in the TH rim model we can offer you the 8x15 - TH1581 and 8x17 - TH1780’s. These are from our regular range where we have stock castings in our stores then just waiting for orders to be confirmed.

Bummer! 17 is too big for the old 309 :( keep an eye out for a 2nd hand set, what the deals with ford fitment items, what spacers are needed to run those? I'll give Carlisle motors and reyland a go too.

Calvin runs 17 x 7s on his 309 and it used to run 18x8s. I may be moving to 17s on mine as well so I can use cheap clip cup slicks ;)

Think Cals got a project thread on the 309 forum so I'd have a butchers on there.

Ha! No it bloody doesn't! The 8x18 where before I had it.

It drives very well with the 17x7s

Only pictures are on my 309 build thread or facebook (Calvin storer)

4 stud Fords tend to run an offset from ET25 to ET42 dependent on vehicle age. The Cosworth models accept an offset from ET25 - 35 and the Mk1 Focus RS is ET42.

Dependent on which Ford the wheels were previously fitted to spacers required would be anything from 10-20mm.

For 8j's you'd probably want et 0 ish

7j ideally! 8 is a little wide

Are these the 17's?

(cheers for the pic calvinhorse)

These are a option too, offset is ET30 so they will be a little too far out correct? (just looking at that link more and they are sold with spacers, you have to buy at £50, so without they could be more like the correct fitment)

Aaaaa, mr wide wheel man to the rescue! Now for my last question, what is the offset of the standard 1.9/309GTI alloy?

Brilliant thanks Ant, so with a set of 16x8's I have 36mm less room between the inside of the wheel and the strut, and it comes out an extra 14mm on the outside edge. Anyone see this being a problem?

I don't think you've got 36mm to play with on the inside on the front, and you certainly haven't at the back.

Indeed, at the back, often even a standard wheel with 195 width tyre can lightly rub the ARB endplate under full deflection.

Why on earth do you want 8" wide wheels anyway? The width of tyre needed to fit is going to leave it horribly over-tyred in my opinion, robbing the 309 chassis of the fine balance that it's blessed with (or that it was blessed with before a V6 was plonked over the front axle anyway!)

Only because that's the only size I can find the TH's in at the size of 16'. If I go up to 17 I can get them in 7j strangely! - I would assume the latter being the more advised way.
