Recommended Posts

Whats the best way of checking the condition of a rear beam? To insure its not seized, worn, accident damaged etc?

Strip it. Anything else is just guesswork.

As tom said, that is the only way to asses its condition.

Alignment wise accident damage tends to be rather obvious, the stub axles bend far sooner than a trailing arm, I think one or two here have experienced bent crossmembers, which takes some doing!

We've all been there pal.

It's always a gamble knowing what you'll find.

it's better to strip it down and find it doesn't need work then having to give it a full rebuild or replace altogether ;)

Which bit is bent? have you dug out the outer bearings totally?

The casings look to be intact, so possibly salvageable.

No the outer and inner bearings are still in the tube. When the tibe is on the floor you can clearly see its bent :(

Most of that beam is scrap but for the centre tube to have bent means it must've been in a big wreck so I'd scrap it all.

I was about to comment that those kits on ebay are usually overpriced, but the first one seems not too bad seeing as it includes the shafts as well (as to whether they are genuine parts I couldnt tell you)

You'll probably find that all the beam guru's will swear by genuine only parts

Cool, thanks... Have saved into watch list so when funds allow, & can find a decent (cheap, lol) spanner man to do work etc, will get done.

you might find that if you're getting somebody to do it for you that theyll be able to get parts more cost effectively :)

Im sure theres a few guys within an afternoons drive of you that'll be able to help :)
