205 Tailgate/door - Fit In An Astravan?

Recommended Posts

JamesE

I've bought a tailgate and door for my 205 but it's 200 miles away. I'm reluctant to hire anything larger than absolutely necessary in order to save fuel costs. Would I get a tailgate and door in an Astravan? It's a rental so I'm presuming it's relatively new...

Cheers,

Jams

They'll fit in the back of a 205, so yes I should imagine you'll be fine.

Yeah I got a PM saying that. Anyone know if they'd fit in the previous shape Ibiza?

Suppose the answer is to take my current tailgate off and try it...

Get a measuring tape out, easier than taking the tailgate off, unless your planning to do that anyway.

If they fit into a 205 I would imagine they'll fit inside an Ibiza easier.

I wouldn't be so sure Graham. The 205 is practical because it has a very square load area with easy access. I've not seen the previous shape Ibiza but I had the current one for a few days and the boot was pretty small on that. From what I can remember, I didn't think at the time that it was as good as a 205 boot.

No worries.

I'm still non the wiser!! Have access to a Meriva as well as my Ibiza. Easiest van rental would involve a swb transit which seems a bit overkill!! Not to mention poor economy (will get an easy 50mpg out of the Ibiza)

They're not that large as it goes no! Lots of modern cars have a less than ideal boot opening which makes their load area, however large, useless! 407SW for example, a 309 tailgate won't fit, in fact i doubt a 205 one would!

Swb transit/sprinter is looking more likely...

At what cost? Around £50 for the day maybe?

I know it doesn't answer the question, but I could pick the items up from Oxford and you could collect them from mine if that's any help. I'm in TF11.

Found a local place that will do it for £40 so might end up doing that

Ive fitted one in a basic 106 before now no problem, however other cars may have a smaller cavity inside the car due to the interior and suspension struts, so for that reason i would measure up the door and width of the cars interior.

Carried a 205 tailgate and windscreen in the back of a Clio 172 Cup once. They aren't as big as you think!

So if the tailgate and door will fit in the back of a 205, how about a bonnet?

OK, I agree that due to boot access shape & size differences it might not be as easy to get in but a bonnet fits easily inside a 306 which the last shape ibiza isn't much difference in external size to a 306 iirc & I thought the developments in space saving was a step further on from that now so it'd be a fairly simply fit considering its smaller than a bonnet but I hadn't thought about the suspension strut intrusion into that area.

yeah, the ibiza isn't great to get odd shaped stuff like bikes etc in either, my sister had one a few years ago, pugs are great :D

they will fit in a 206, bit its a tighter squeeze than a 205!

In terms of van hire, Enterprise used to do Transit Connects for buttons on a 24hr hire- I've used them a couple of times, something like £25 for a day.

Taken the old tailgate off....

It does fit...just (but not flat). How heavy are doors? As will have to possibly lay the door on top of the tailgate. Will it be ok to do that?
