Turbo 1.9 Gti Engine Or Buy 2.0 T Engine?

an alloy TU may be light, but the iron 16v weighs more than an XU alloy engine or an EW, nice engines, but in a 205 its not the engine of choice IMO.

the rally car I service for broke 5 MA's, no diff failures given it had a Quaife, not surprising given it was designed for a 1360cc 750 kilo AX, and they bolted it to a 1600 in a 900 kilo Saxo.

I've replaced several in 1360cc shopping cars as well, certainly not boyracer'd!

lowering wont kill them, poor design that flexes far too much.

What did they break in the box?

the ax boxes have the same insides as the 1.6's (obviously different ratios) ive got a draw full of ma gearsets from 4 speed ax's to 1.6 gti's the only ones ive changed are the planet gear failure but the customer always prefers a second hand box than replacing the planets.

personally i quite like the little MA box.

Gti6 with a supercharger ;)

Would be nice but a rotrex is megggggggga bucks!

would have to use a mini charger but they are abit to big and ugly.

Turbo is my only real option

I always laugh when someone comments about plays with focus RS's etc. how actually often do you come up against a focus RS or similar and they wana have a blip. Think I've probably only followed a couple driving for 7 years and that was in the work car...

Oh ok i see, surely the i can just copy the turbo technics kit, im guessing they just use a 5th injector set up, i dont really want to use that kind of set up, id prefer an aftermarket ecu.

Well im stuck on what engine to use.

Rebuild the 1.9 and add a turbo set up

106 gti lump and add turbo set up

2.0 8v turbo seems out of the question,

possibly gti6 engine and add turbo set up ( witch i know wont be cheap or easy due do the mani being on the rear but sounds fun)

I did put a turbo technics manifold on the 2.0 8v and a dkz cam.

So very similar to the 1.9 turbo technics conversion, but with 95cc more volume, bigger inlet valves and better ecu than the 5th injector addon of the tt.

(not as good as aftermarket management, but cheaper to start with)

It's big but wouldn't say it was overly heavy, just as heavy as a turbo and its other components. Allenallen on here as achieved 250bhp with one at half the price of a rotrex conversion. If anything do it for the whine!

I also have 2.0 T engine as a project ... will try to run it standard for a while and see if i like it .. if not i'll try this route :

1. 8v aluminium block

2. 1.9 crankshaft

3. 1.9 DKZ pistons

4. 1.9 DFZ head (ported + 2.0 8v valves ..)

5. 1.9 DKZ camshaft

6. 2.0 turbocharger with the manifold + IC

7. 2.0 T inlet manifold (ported to match 1.9 DFZ head)

8. ... and try to wire it up on bosch motronic mp 3.2 with remapped ECU

Yes m45 although make sure you get a good one I bought a bad one at first. A lot of it is custom work brackets and inlet etc but there are Afew pictures in mine and al's build thread.

The Rotrex is not really a supercharger thou, more of a Turbo driven off the crank

I love this forum. It's like asking what is the best choice of TV and being told to buy a microwave instead

They're two completely different supercharger designs.

Eaton is a Roots type supercharger, whereas the Rotrex is a contrifrugal type supercharger. You'll find plenty on the web about both types and their advantages and disadvantages.

Think of a Rotrex as the compressor side of a turbo that's driven from a belt off the crankshaft, rather than by waste exhaust gases as a turbocharger is, and you're on the right lines. It's slightly more complicated than that of course, but that's the basic gist of it.

go for a turbo rather than super charger. something about having a turbo under the bonnet that puts a smile on your face

turbos a waste of money and nothing but problems unless you have a few grand to do it right,i would go gti6 for a while then supercharge it when you get bored, power delivery on the turbos is s*ite drove one and hated it,nothing then a surge of power wheelspin then short power band then change gear, would have a gti6 over a turbo anyday, far better conversion imho

Depends if you just coble it together or build it properly!

One good thing about superchargers is the lack of torque, Makes them Pug gearbox friendly 'ish',

But having driven most types within reasonable limits the 8v TT is very good, followed by the T16 version,
