Recommended Posts

How do I know whether I have a XU9JA - D6B with 130bhp or XU9JA/Z - DKZ with 122bhp

Mine is a 1.9 gti H reg 1990.

front of the engine left hand side down toward the bottom of the engine mount there should be a little plate there that tells you

Hope so, what was the other, least powerful engine for? Selected markets?

mid K was the point where they became compulsory I think so a J plate car falls before this time and does not need to be equipped with one, that is how i understand the rulings

Was a option from 1990, It's a better engine to have anyway not that many people will agree with that

Aug '92 it became compulsory, but that's build date not registration, I have an Aug '92 reg'd non-Cat car.

Out of interest Miles why do you think its the better engine. My dad has it in his K reg Cti and I just don't think it cuts it. Lovely for just cruising in 5th but it lacks the poke in my view.

cti was a different engine, was a 105 bhp low comp engine in most!

122 bhp engine has Motronic which controls spark as well as fuel, has a lambda of course due to the cat needing quite strict control of the emissions for it to work efficiently.

Ahh that would be why then. Not driven the 122 bhp version.

Better ECU (Motronic) basically and the power difference is minimal when you think not that many 1.9's made book power so you would be looking 3 or 4 bhp difference between them

indeed, my Jetronic only made 122 bhp till I swapped it for Motronic
