G-Reg 1.9 Gti

Recommended Posts

ciarandeery1

Hi everyone just bought my first gti. It's a G reg with 110k on the clock. It's a good honest car and solid in all the right places. Needs a few things tidied up so hopefully by spring it'll be looking fresh and back to its former glory. I gave it a polish today and scubbed the carpet, just waiting on my new mats and exhaust system then its onto the body shop, Here's the pictures

Looks very shiny now youve polished it. And very red which is always a good sign :) what does it need body wise?

Someone painted the drivers side quarter and made a hash of it, so sort that, a few small scabs on the roof but they're very small and not through the paint, boot floor needs sanded and rust protected painted then sealed just for safe measure again it's not bad at all but rather do it now than let it get bad. Apart from that get the few soft dents popped out and a good machine polishing to bring the paint well up.

Quick question for everyone, should my exterior trims be light grey or black?

Ok being my first gti I wasn't quite sure, so maybe someone's changed my interior? Anyway I'm happy enough with it, would be nice to get hold of some grey trims

Looks like a tidy one!

If it's a later G plate then the later ph2 black & red seats could be original, even if it has grey dash & plastics as they were changing over around this time. If it has te earlier style rear lights then the exterior plastics should be grey.

I know the purists will beat me for saying this but i think the black trims on a red GTI look better,i think the seats look a bit odd with a grey dash, you could always fit a phase 2 dash

Ok cheers guys, it's not to bad but could be left a really nice little car, can't expect perfect for 22 year old unless someone's spent a fortune restoring it

i know what you mean my current car is my 3rd over the years lol!

mines a very late 205 1.6 gti on k plates and is completely standard and is a phase 2 car with black plastic interior parts and black exterior body kit and late type rear lights and clear front indicator lenses.

yours looks to be a late phase 1.5 on g plates with its mix of grey interior and exterior body kit with earlier type rear lights and maybe should have orange front indictor lenses instead of clear? :)

If I could get the orange ones I'd put them in. I've also got 2 Valero headlights and the bottom lights to all new to freshen the front up. I think you may be right about the interior and exterior trims should be grey? Any other advice? I'm going to put standard airbox back on this week along with my new Ashley competition exhaust :)

Well Ciaran! Just letting you know that i am on this forum too lol those newer pics look well! Just letting you know i know where there are some mint half grey seats sitting if your interested. The orange front indicators should be easy got but i think the mounting is different on them so you need to replace it as well, easy found im sure. Get yourself a set of proper siem spots as they are so much better than the denjis but they are expensive.

Orange indicators are a direct swap!

It may actually have grey trim but it's just well looked after or have been replaced/plasticared etc, when in good condition/replaced they are quite dark. :)
